Now that is a concept I can appreciate.  Obviously tailored towards a specialty group, but hey that is us, so I don't mind. :crackup

Good to see somebody thinking outside the box to come up with an idea.

I've been thinking about something similar for a long time. Cut everything back to a minimum. I like his idea for the expandable section. Still some way to go, but not much. As somebody on the US site asked, what about mozzies and rain? Wouldn't be hard to include some protection. Great!

This is a great concept, 'cause when camp/touring the bulkiest luggage that I carry on the bike relates to shelter and sleeping, ie tent, mattress, sleeping bag and I still have to deal with a wet packup if its raining.   If the unit was big enough inside, such that you could wriggle into your wet weather gear before getting out, then it's no different to a tent, just quicker and easier to pack up.    A small vinyl verandah to shelter the open section would solve most of the concerns.

Have had a similar idea for a trailer. Maybe needs some folding frame and canvas for a roof and verandah. I would use some overcentre latches to keep closed and water tight.

Very interesting idea.  The bulky stuff like tent, sleeping bag/swag etc is taken care of with enough space to travel light with all the other gear.  Quick to put up.
