ST1100 pannier recommended max carrying capacity?

Does anyone have the book that states what the recommended maximum load for the ST1100 panniers is per side?

I think its 10Kgs, wait I will look at the manual thats available on line.

The sticker inside the lid say 9kgs/20lb

Not that I have taken any notice. I have weighed them to make sure that the weight distribution was reasonable. Jaycar sell an electronic scale for bags and such for $20 or so that you can also use for carry on baggage, weighing malt for beer etc.

I've never had any problems having a 10 litre fuel container (weight ???) in each sidecase. One each side for balance. Spare fuel comes in handy sometimes and it's better kept on the bike rather than fuel fumes getting into the stuff in the trailer.

So check this out, and its straight from the book.
The combined weight of the rider, cargo and additional accessories must not exceed 195 KG, the maximum weight capacity.  Cargo weight alone should not exceed 18 kg.  Saddlebag 9kg, fairing pocket 2kg.
Now no idea about eveyone else but that means I can no longer take a pillion  Pack all the gear I pack and use the bike the way I want All I know is that I take a pillion, pack the bike till I can't pack any more and it has never complained.

The gear on the bikes easily the weight of a normal????????? pillion and the saddlebags are chockas amd the handling and speed are no way effected

looking at terry's pic, even if I go touring on my own I still use the trailer. But even two-up and trailer must exceed the weight limit but bike seems okay with it.

Just quietly, I try to not let the saddlebag weight get over 9kgs each side, but then load the rest of the bike up to the gunnels when touring, but......... if I slipped on some oil, do you think insurance assessors would pursue the 'overloaded' reason not to cough up?

Not if there was no photo and you threw the excess in the bush before the witnesses arrived.
It's a bit like carrying an overload of fuel in a plane.  The evidence burns with the rest of the wreckage.

And 10 litres of petrol weighs 6.5 kg, btw.
10 litres of water weighs 10 kg by definition.
