New screen for ST1100 from the U.K. ?

(1/2) > >>

Wayne'o:
Hi guys, just bought my second hand ST1100 yesterday and first thing I am going to replace is the screen, which on my bike is way past it's use by date. I notice from previous posts that "Screens for Bikes", Reservoir, Vic. is recommended and I can agree with that having use Peter's products many times in the past with other bikes that I have owned.
However, when I looked at this website today it stated that production time for the rest of the month has been fully allocated and to try again a couple of weeks.
What I did notice in my search today was another manufacturer in the U.K. who manufacturers original spec screens for the ST1100 for around 90 pounds sterling ($160A approx.)  which includes delivery. The screens are 3mm acrylic, predrilled holes, polished etc etc. The manufacturer is SLIPSCREENS U.K.
Has anyone out there used or familiar with their products. It is considerably cheaper than Screen for bikes, as well. I know you get what you pay for but sometimes a bargain can be had.
Thoughts ???

Bike-Quip in the UK does fantastic screens for the ST1300, and I used one for years, but I can't speak for their ST1100 screen.

I bought a UK screen of off David Silver Spares and within a couple of years it had crazed to the point of needing replacing.

Was relaced with another UK screen supplied by the previous owner of Bike Equip.

That screen has just started to faintly craze but it will do for a couple years yet.

I think our summers are to hot of the UK material they use in the screens so I'd be interested in getting a local one next time.

The OEM screen eventual went opaque in much the same way the plastic on car headlights do.

Thanks boys for your responses.
Agree with your comments. Aussie summers are very harsh.
Just as a point of reference, I am going to price an original Honda replacement today.
This way when I pick myself up off the floor, the other replacement screens will give me
the impression of being cheap and I'll think I'm getting a bargain.
At this point I will probably wait and put in an order with Screens for Bikes, but will keep
searching in the meantime.
Thanks again for your responses.
Happy travels to all.

priced a factory Honda replacement screen for the ST1100 and I hope your sitting down
when you read this because the price was $634.

This is highway robbery and I would love to have the money to challenge them through the
Prices Justification Tribunal and let them try to explain in the courts why this is so high.

Wouldn't if beautiful to win a case like and have them, in retrospect, refund all the overcharging
that Honda does in this country with it's spares.

I know they all do it but $634 for a screen is way beyond a joke.

I am going to write a letter to Honda Australia and let them know that I plan to do this.

No doubt, I won't get a reply because obviously they don't give a shit about us who buy their product.

Winge over, happy travels.

Wayne
