Bike Theft .... Ever happened to you?..
« on: April 18, 2012, 02:11:49 PM »
I think STs are almost 'off the market' as they don't seem to get ripped off that much compared to other makes.

I have been quite lucky in that neither mine nor my mates bikes have ever been stolen - not even gear on the bike or accessories.  (I'm madly touching wood right now!)

What about you?

Where were you? How'd it happen? Were you on a ride and parked somewhere at the time? Did you ever see your bike/gear again?

Tell all - we might learn something valuable from your experience.

Cheers, Diesel

Well now I've gone and done it, I voted No.... first it gets knocked over, I hope it doesn't get stolen next!

I don't know anybody first-hand who has had a bike stolen either.

If someone feels that energetic to man handle a 300kg bike then good for them. It's certainly not a bike I'd walk more than a few feet without fear of dropping it and I own it. As for gear theft, no problem as there's more than enough space with side cases, top box and trailer for the longer trips.

Even on my CX500 Turbo all those years ago doing the coast from Kingston S.E. in SA to Sydney we had no issues with gear theft for the few times when we left bike in shopping centre carparks etc. And I've pushed that bike 5kms home after an alternator failure.

Nothing from the ST, but had helmet n gloves stolen from my previous bike while parked in Perth.

A most uncomfortable ride home it was

Ditto with Brock, previous bike, gear taken off the back, at night... 'lesson learnt' never do that again.

From the front of a house  I lived at- couldn't believe it- quiet, old area in a back street.  Went out the front in leathers first thing in the morning for a ride (left out the front so as to not wake neighbours early) with helmet and tank bag in hand, the confused look on my face must have been gold to any onlookers.  2005 CBR600RR, they would have picked it up and dropped it on the back of a ute. Never to be seen again.

My TZR-250 got stolen from out the front of Ultimo TAFE.
At least they left the chain & lock which I used to put through the rear wheel.
Went to report it and the copper thought I was bullshitting.
They told the insurance company not to pay me.
All I got was a refund of my remaining premium from the p^#*($.
