Over the last couple of weeks here in SA I've noticed and commented on people forgetting about social distancing and other activities to protect against spread

To be honest I thought our seating at Sevenhill was a lot closer than I had anticipated (no doubt influenced about how far apart our tables are in the various mess rooms at work).  I didn't take any photos inside the venue for that reason.

It won't take much for this to change and I suspect complacency is the reason Victoria is in the situation it is at the moment.

From what I experience every time I've gone shopping I'm actually surprised things aren't worse.
Luckily for us I don't believe there are any active cases in our area but that may very well change with the school holidays and the influx of visitors to the region that brings.

Have a read about these "numpties": https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-06-26/coronavirus-melbourne-testing-blitz-underway-in-hotspot-suburbs/12393984  :||||

Had to fly Cloncurry-Mount Isa-Brisbane return this week..temp checks at each airport, announcements and signage about physical distancing everywhere and constant.....yet lets all fly together packed in like sardines in a tin tube with recirculated air...I agree we need to practice all we can to prevent the spread but it just is not practicable to retrain 4 generations and the app is after the event not a preventative measure
One day you will wake up and there won't be anymore time to do the things you've always wanted so do them NOW!!!
Remember there are 7 days in a week and Someday isn't one of them!

Brookster, the air in an aircraft isnt 100% recirculated, its all replaced every 3 to 4 minutes and its all passed through Hepa filters before it gets back into the cabin. You are more likely to get a bug in a supermarket than an aircraft. Of course sitting next to a coughing sneezing monster aint good.

It’s time to give COVIDSafe the flick

Millions of dollars down the drain for an app that barely works — COVIDSafe is a dud and the government needs to fix it or flick it.

Melbourne man claims COVIDSafe tracking app failed to notify him about close contact with positive case

It was meant to be Australia’s ticket out of coronavirus danger. But a Melbourne man has exposed that the app does nothing to protect us.

That is right if the positive case didn't have turned on it certainly wouldn't have worked. As I said before the 15 minute time frame has always been a strange one. May be if everyone in Vic had it on Vic wouldn't be in such a mess   :grin.

Maybe but no point in trying to fix it if a large proportion of the population won't sign up.

Aww, c'mon! Over 6 million downloads, and not a single report yet?

https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2020-06-11/coronavirus-contact-tracing-app-covid-safe-no-close-contacts/12343138

If it worked, ScoMo would be all over the news channels patting himself on the back!

App is as useless, as a condom is to a duck!  :grin

A large proportion of the population do not HAVE smart phones.

Interesting question. I had vaguely thought about the difference and surprise surprise, from our good friend Mr Google:-

17.9 million smartphones
When most people hear 'mobile', they tend to think of smartphones and feature phones. These devices are common - there are an estimated 17.9 million smartphones in Australia (Statista, 2019).

Mobile Nation 2019 - Deloitte

The next question is what is "large" I would think maybe 20%.

From our survey here 37% have not downloaded the app, and I don't remember any one quoting not have a smart phone.

If we can assume Mr Google is roughly correct, lets say 15 million smart phones in Australia and maybe some people have two we could then conservatively say 12 million people in Australia have a at least one smart phone then only 50% of the smart phone owners downloaded the app.

I also suspect quite a few of those smart phones are reasonably old with an old operating system that's not capable of running the app...
Then you have to take into account the issues that plagued iPhones with this app...How many would have installed the app, had trouble so then uninstalled it?  :fp

Details please. How many of those involved, particularly the carrier had a smart phone, bothered to download the app and had it enabled? Did the minimum 15 minute contact time hinder results?

The App is only usefull, if a majority have it on their phones and carry them every where. If person 0 doesnt have the app, and neither do persons 1 - 10 then there is no way to find the origin.

Quote
One of the app's big issues has been the 15 minutes people need to be close to each other for COVIDSafe to register a close contact.
That feature is now the subject of discussions by state governments to see if the Coalition can change that aspect of the program.

I figured that was going to be an issue from the start, so why has it taken these clowns so long to work it out???  :||||

Tonights News on 7 has the figures for the 'success' of the CovidSafe app lemon.

In NSW, 6 instances of detection have been reported so far, and in Vic, none, zero, zilch!
