BMW Tyre Life

StinkyPete:
I've been a little disappointed with the tyre life on my '16 R1`200RT, so here's a breakdown of what I've got so far.

Front
PR4 GT               14,400km
                         12,945km
Pireli Angel GTa   10,565km
                          9,690 km
                          16,320km
Rear
PR4 GT                14,400km
                          12,945km
8,900km (High speeds, heavy load, and course roads in NT killed it)
Pirelli Angel GTa   11,274km
                           10,056km

I run the factory recomended 38 and 42 psi.

That certainly is rather ordinary.  Especially the front - I tend to get 2 fronts to one rear on STrudel.  Any theories?

StinkyPete:
The best theory I have heard for the poor mileage from the rear is that the "pulsed" power from the twin is harder on the tyre than the smooth delivery from a four cylinder bike.    Since my riding style and habits has not changed from my ST days, that seems like a reasonable suggestion.    I have stated before that my local dealer services all of the police Beemers, and they all get around 10k from tyres, irrespective of what tyres they fit.

LindsayGT:
So far on a K1600GT

Front 8000km on a Pirelli Angel GT Aspec
Front 17385km on a Michelin PR4 GT
Front 14315km on a Pirelli Angel GT 2 Aspec

Rear 18000km on a Pirelli Angel GT Aspec
Rear 21700km on a Pirelli Angel GT Aspec

Currently running a pair of Pirelli Angel GT 2 Aspecs.

Try and keep to 43psi F&R.

I’m a bit of an old granddad rider!!! 8)

BigTed:
Hey Lindsay, no one can out grandad me .

I've just changed the rear Michelin PR4 for a Road 5GT. The PR4 gave me 32,200km... it probably still had a few thou left too but since I was doing the brakes I changed it early. I'm pretty happy with that as usual... This also includes it's first 4,000km as the ride from Adelaide home to Perth on my lap towing a trailer. I'll see how the 5 goes, but I can't see me trying anything else.
Pete, does the Michelin come in the Beamer size?
