Sight Glass Capacity?
« on: January 21, 2021, 08:53:00 AM »
Has anyone worked out what the oil capacity is between the two lines in the sight glass window?
It would be handy to know when working out how much oil one might need to add.

If the above question is not clear, imagine the oil between the two lines is 300ml.
So if my oil level was half way between the lines then 150ml top up would be the absolute max required.  Nice to know up front rather than ... oops its now over full.

As long as the oil is between the lines, all is good. I dont think I have ever needed to top up after an oil change. One thing I have noticed, is that when the bike is on the side stand, after an oil change is that the oil level is just visible at the bottom of the window. So if you can see oil then all is good.

There is no problem if the oil is slightly above the top line, but not so good if the window is full.

Sight Glass Capacity 500ml?
« Reply #2 on: January 24, 2021, 10:53:22 AM »
So to find an answer in the absence of someone already knowing the answer,

I believe its approximately ½ litre or 500ml.

The totally unscientific analysis was based on a sight inspection of the current level sitting very close to half in the window.
I measured and added 120 ml and after two cycles it was just a like lower than the top level marker.

So my guess is 500 ml is likely close to the differential capacity.
