Fuel gauge stuck

(1/2) > >>

mikep:
Hi, I'm still here and still riding although not very often.

Today after a short ride i filled the tank. The gauge went to full,  actually a bit above the full mark,  as it should have,  but when i got home and turned the ignition off the gauge still read above the full mark.  I've checked the fuses and they're ok.  I've tried disconnecting the battery but the gauge does not move,  it seems like a mechanical issue. Any ideas?
TIA

Shiney:
When I rode the mighty 1100 the fuel gauge wouldn't move for the first 100 k or so from full :think1
So a short ride might not be enough for the gauge to move.

I'm sure some of the current st1100 riders will be along soon with more info.

Cheers
Shiney

Brock:
My gauge is still sitting where it was when the engine was turned off. It wont go down until you use the fuel..

mikep:
Oh, ok! I've never noticed that before.  Sounds like an excuse for a decent ride tomorrow,  or rather today since it's past midnight now.  Thanks,  I'll try that. I might pick a rough road to also give the gauge a shake, not hard to do especially in these parts,  some of those cattle grids rattle your teeth! Thanks!

mikep:
Well, duuuh!
I've had the bike maybe 15 years and never noticed that.  My excuse is that i usually fill the tank before a ride,  rarely after one, and the needle was way past the full mark so i thought..... never mind,  no marks to me for being observant. About 100km and the gauge is down to the full mark.
I'm pleased there's nothing wrong,  and thank you to Brock and Shiney for responding.
