Going by the stats on my best run, I should be able to get 480 Ks out of the tank, hopefully more. I will probably wind up with a sore bum into the bargain.

I would have thought that EFI in the long run should be better as it stays in tune better, without the wear I have experienced in various parts of the carbs on my bike.

but can you see how the computer (EMS - tune as you ride) and fuel injection has made a world of difference?

I'd agree that as an overall comparison between the 1100/1300 the EFI on the 1300 with all things being equal should give better fuel economy.

However, as well know there many variables to take into account, such as lay of the land, speed and wind direction to name a couple. The same bike with the same rider on the same stretch of road on two different days will give different figures as regards to kms/L.

Its always good to test such things before you have to find out the hard way.  Normally I would count on a 450km range at least, with the possibility of going further if needs be and the conditions were right. Going to the Border Run this year there were strong head winds that reduced the comfort zone to not much more than 330kms, which is right up there in fuel usage to a brisk day ride through the Snowy Mountains.  My fuel light does not work, but I have my benchmarks to keep an eye on to see how the fuel usage is going.  When the needle moves off the full mark to just inside the top white mark that is 6 to 7 litres, half way just happens to be 14 litres used on mine, and on the last white mark is a touch over 20 litres.  Every ST11 varies it seems.  If the needle hits the red zone there is 4 litres left, but I have to be sure I noticed when it happened  or else  :||||

Like you John, the worst my bike has ever done was on that run. On one tank of fuel in that head wind I got 12.71 kms/L but that was towing the trailer and having Heather on board as well.
But the best I've had this year was 19.67kms/L (with Heather no trailer) but my average over 12098kms for the year is 15.8kms/L. So you win on some and lose on others.

The best fuel economy I have got was from E10.  91RON is the next best.  95 and 98 RON don't do anything for my ST11 except make the wallet lighter.  Fuel economy does not worry me particularly, it is just the range I get from a tank that means I can get from here to somewhere else without pushing.

Unless I am riding with other ST owners, a range of 450kms plus seems well beyond other riders comprehension, so I have to decide whether to fill up when they stop at 250 to 300kms, which is far too early to stop on a decent ride    Wot thuh

Thanks for the invitation to share, Diesel   :)

On my 2000 ST1100PY I averaged 5.8654 l/100km over 122 refuellings.

My best was 5.0885 l/100km; worst was 6.9854.

On my 2004 ST1300A I averaged 5.9246 l/100km over 72 refuellings.

My best was 4.9769 l/100km; worst was 7.093.

On my current 2009 ST1300A I'm averaging 5.5097 l/100km over 94 refuellings.

My best has been 4.67 l/100km; worst was 6.8281.

Why the variation between the two ST1300s?
One explanation could be the fact the 2004 figures began at 66,590 kms, whereas the current bike began at 5500 and hence is newer and probably more "in tune".
Another factor is I have done much more "out of city" riding on this bike, including two FarRides, the STOC Rally and a trip to Tassie.
I'm also older and much more sensible now.    :grin

Darn, while I'm away working my butt off, Brock is whacking it!!!!   :eek

Looks like on average, you are getting an extra 320m per litre from the ST13 over the 11 - all things taken in - i.e. an extra km per 3 litres - or and extra 9 km per 27lt tank - not any where near the 150 clicks that showed up in previous figures. This would seem more realistic based upon the science of the two machines.

In a nutshell - bugger all difference!

Hows this for fuel Economy 558.6 with gauge showing 59 km to go so should get 617.6km
But I only could put 24 litres to fill it up so I had 5 litres left.
On my fuel Economy converter it says I got 66 mpg or 4.3 litres per 100 km
So if I could use up all of the 29 litres in tank I could have got 670 km km
But I am not going to try

I think it is imperial as I have a old "TOTAL" fuel  Economy converter
the type you slide along and line up fuel used and Km travelled

I don't know about riding like an OLD Man but if you keep the speed down to a maximum 80kph you will get this sort of fuel consumption.  :blk13 o:) o:)

This excellent fuel economy run was recordered on a run from Toowoomba to Mapleton and return and a ride yesterday from Toowoomba to Esk "had lunch at Esk Bakery" then onto to Blacksoil where I filled up with fuel
The run to Mapleton was normal highway speed 100 to 110 when I met up with Redline and RobJob at Esk on the way.
We did have a lady learner rider with us that I stayed back to keep an eye on, she was riding a Suzuki 500 twin but she sat on 100 to 110 where she could.  Then the trip to Esk and Blacksoil was with my Brother in Law on a Harley which is not a race bike
It would be amasing what fuel economy you could get riding at 80 kph maybe someone should try it some day.

Well the new ST1300 is not as good on fuel as yet, but it only has 7,600km on it so far
I fill up today with similar riding as last time I did 461km and put in 22.95 litres
So only got 4.98 litres per 100km or 56.72 mpg  :o

Being new to the ST1300 I am frankly amazed by the fuel economy and range. Last 2 fills more than 500ks with a minimum 60ks left to travel according to the bike, so I suspect more. I keep thinking SS1600 with 2 fuel stops, a 50CC with 7 a 100CCC way easier than the last Honda I did one on :fp.

I know I am preaching to the converted, but I am excited and just needed to say it!

Can't understand why more FarRiders and IBAers don't see this, among other major advantages of the STs.

Economy of bikes seem to vary, out of my mates ST1300s mine is the most economical,  possibly because it is run in (170,000klms), I always get over 500klms out of a tank, and if I stayed at the speed limit I am sure I could get over 600 klms from the tank, but I don't know if I could stand going so slow for so long.  I change the in tank fuel filter every 80,000 klms (you would be shocked at how much gunk I get out of it,) and run injector cleaner in the tank regularly.
