This may have been looked at or previosly kicked into the bin or I might just be the First for once to come up with a great idea.

FarRiders track it each year by getting people to log in and put start mileage Jan 1st with photo.  Lock the thread after certain date and then re-open in December for photos to be added and then calculate.
