Digital Volt Guage AND Gear Indicator Finally Installed!!!!!

Well. At last i have finished the installation of a digital volt guage and gear indicator. Picture does not do them justice at all as they are nice and bright and crystal clear. I decided to use white led as i thought it would be the easiest to see and i was right. For those thinking of doing this, you can only install the volt guage where i have if you DO NOT have ABS as this is where the ABS light is. The gear indicator is mounted over the ST1300 light so i wont miss that anyway.
The instructions for the gear indicator said to connect the tach wire at the ECU but after some thought, the same wire runs in to the instrument cluster so i just joined it in there. Accessory feed wire for the volt guage i also tapped in to where the loom comes in to the cluster. If anyone is thinking of doing this, i am happy to give some advice where i can. Just give me a hoy if i can help.

Hey Biggles. I know it can be done but is there anyone in Australia (preferably Melbourne) that does it. I had a good look when i had the instruments apart but i am not confident enough to replace surface mount LED's. I am happy to pay someone if there is anyone who puts up their hand.

This is a USA company that does digital work.  I have seen their work (Hot Rods) and it is very nice.  Just be sitting down when you get a price I'm told.

Tell me, as a comeback kid to motorcycling who is working his way towards the longer rides, what kind of situation is it that benefits by watching the voltage constantly. Is it the load of all the electrical farkles that are installed on many ST's that need monitoring? If the voltage drops a lot what can be done about it. Does it mean that if the voltage is low all the time then a new more powerful battery is required? I was under the impression my battery is a sealed unit and can't be topped up with water. I'm not doubting your reasons just wondering out loud and thought others in my posi would like to know as well. 

Also, with no gear indicator I sometimes wonder whether I'm in 4th or 5th around town but can usually guess by the tachometer. I can also see a benefit to know whether you're in 1st or 2nd at the lights to make easier to slip into neutral. The gear indicator light sure makes this a no-brainer.

 The reason i installed the volt guage was that over my 30 something years of riding, i have been caught a couple of times where the charging system has failed and by the time you realise, it is too late. For the cost of $3.29 DELIVERED, i could not resist this little ripper. The gear position indicator was something i have always wanted. And now i have it, i will never be without it again.

Just one comment about the gear indicator.  It won't tell you what gear you are in when you are stationary, because it derives its information by comparing the transmission RPM with the engine RPM.  But it sure is good for saving up-changing when you are already in 5th.  I also like to confirm I'm in 3rd when I'm heading into the climbing twisties.  It's the perfect gear for operating between 20 and 60 kph without changing, over-revving or lugging.

All very true. Stationary, it just shows the symbol "-" . But it is reasonably quick to respond when you are moving.

SKIP: Hahaha. Actual mileage is only 18194klms. Has been absolutely babied all its life. Then i bought it 6 months ago!!!

I think they are only available from Hong Kong. Only took 2 weeks to arrive though which i thought was pretty quick.
