police h/l switch
« on: June 16, 2013, 09:59:17 AM »
I have a police model 1100, with the police RH switch.
I want to use the Light  Off H P switch for spot lights. The switch does nothing. But I wonder are there internal connections for the headlight to be on all the time as the law requires.
If I pull the appropriate wires from the wiring harness plug, the one the red connector from the switch plugs into.
Will it affect the lights? Has anyone used this  switch? The plug is bit awkward to get at.
Thanks Paul

It should not affect the lights as the lights are wired up directly from the fusebox.  I have some info that might help (police switch wiring and a document on how to use the switch)  I even found a 1995 police owners manual.  I can email through.

The 1,2,3 switch isnt used for the head lights at all, and have no effect . It is used instead for strobes and siren ( the 3 momentary 3 position gives a burst of siren). The wiring is under the rear seat.

Here is a diagram for the wiring

Mr Brock
the 123 switch is not the one i mean. i am wondering about the vertical P & H switch which goes through the red plug. The 123 I already use for fog lights. Spend more time on low beam and since standard low is found wanting i installed 70mm narva compacs with 35 w HID to ease load on alternator, works really well.
Mr Saaz  I have trawled the web and found numerous diagrams but none mention the lights on set up we have here. Thanks to to you both

Then you must mean the 7,8 switch. Doesnt matter, as none of the police switches affect the lighting.

I use the 7,8 switch for my driving lights. The wiring diagram still applies. I used the exisiting strobe wiring to the front from the connector cluster in the rear, instead of running new wires..

Paul, I just looked at the police wiring diagram and worked it out.

I just sent through various things. The owners manual confirms that U type (ie Australian models) do not have the headlight on/off switch operational.
