Hole in Exhaust ?

(1/1)

zevk:
I pulled R +L exhaust mufflers off to bench polish and noticed a very small HOLE in the bottom of each can, same location.

2005 ST1300A with 53k stock exhaust.

I have attached photos.

:think1 Question: Is this a "wear spot" and the beginning of pin hole / exhaust rot?  >:() If it is Ill dab some exhaust glue / tape, over it

OR, is it an intentional condensation drainage hole? (probably not... :-((()

Do other ST1300 members have the same HOLES?

I can feel, see AND hear exhaust gasses from the small hole.

would appreciate if any member could take a look under your cans and compare. :-++

thanks in advance

StinkyPete:
Zevk, My 2008 ST1300 has holes in the same spot.  I'm guessing that it's drain holes for condensation that will build up inside the muffler during a short, cold run.

saaz:
The ST11 has the same thing. Probably because of all the baffles inside to meet noise requirements some way to get rid of water build up through condensation is needed. After market mufflers don't tend to have the drain holes as less baffles and condensation is blown out pretty well.

zevk:
thanks for all replies!
much appreciated as never seen "intentional" holes in exhaust prior.

regards
