The latest AMCN has again raised rumours of a possible ST replacement using the ST13 engine for a platform a CTX1300.  Talk is that it will be influenced by the latest CTX700 Honda and take some ideas from that cut down Gold Wing.

But this seems to indicate that a V twin engine is more likely.  http://blog.motorcycle.com/2013/09/05/manufacturers/honda/leaked-document-lists-honda-ctx1300-cbr650f-cb650f-vfr800f-cb250f-and-updated-cbr250r/

I hope it turns out better than it sounds!

Maybe it will look something like this

Could be that some will start looking at :-

Competitors For The Honda ST1300

• BMW K
• Kawasaki Concours 14 ABS
• Moto Guzzi Norge
• Yamaha FJR

Not for me.......not with that chain drive. I'd opt for 'wing if I was able to afford a new bike.

You forgot the best competitor, Kev.

I reckon the Triumph Trophy has to be considered.  The only thing I don't like is the single sided exhaust- it looks unbalanced.

After that, I'd look at the FJR well before the rest!

I totally agree that the Trophy looks like the "Best of the Rest".   However, it has no tip-over protection and thus a little drop will do lots of damage.

Maybe there are Oggy knobs that suit it (and ruin its clean lines).

I believe there are some protection bars you can fit to the Trophy.. R&G make them..not that I am looking that much...

Without getting off topic....my local Trumpy dealer was saying that the Trophy isn't selling too well in Oz.  He said there was talk that they were going to stop importing them.  Time will tell.

Cheers,

Tony

Oh goody.  Then maybe they'll have huge price drops like Honda did.

Could be, but I have had to wait for the next shipment until I can get one as they are all sold out.  It was never going to be  a big seller but am important addition to the range.  If they don't get any more then I will just stick the the ST11 until it dies some time, but who knows when??

I rode the Triumph Trophy while at the Ulysses AGM in Maryborough. Even though I liked the Trophy
I came home and bought a brand new ST1300.
Honda dropping the price on the ST1300 did help me make up my mind  :grin

I like the Triumph but I can't see any reason to even think about changing codes,  my thoughts are....."if it ain't broke, don't fix it"...... and right now "it ain't broke" :grin

Hey Saaz, why not consider trading up to a good second hand ST1300, there's still plenty around mate! :grin

There's an item on the CTX1300 in this weeks Aussie Motor Cycle mag.  They say the CTX1300 will borrow parts from the ST1300, "Our Japanese sources claim the bike will be based around a longitudinally-mounted V4 engine from the ST1300 tourer.  If this is the case expect a beast that's somewhere between a traditional and long-distance tourer"

If the want a long distance tourer, what's wrong with the ST1300?
At my age you realise something very important, then ten minutes later you've forgotten it.

At nearly $29000 I'm not surprised, I certainly would be having a good look at the competition before shelling out that much.. hell I'd look hard at a good second hand wing for that money.

I have tried all the competition (including the BMW1600 at 10 grand more) and if the Trophy was not around a GoldWing would be the one.  I did think about an ST1300 but unfortunately test rode the Trophy a few times....

Well you might just have to test ride the 1300 a couple more times....sounds like you just haven't found the right one yet....

A possible successor to the ST13 (in touring form) - or just a great cruiser - the CTX1300

What were the designers thinking with that "dragon's head" front end!??

I agree, and Honda still won't have a bike to compete against the Yamaha FJR class of tourers.
