What method do you prefer to use to plug a tyre ??

CO2 cylinders only good for one shot, and are expensiveish. Compressor usually isnt empty when you need to use it.

So far I haven't plugged  a tyre but I have used Holts Tyre repair before which is just a variation of the slime method.

I now have a plug kit which I have yet to use. I generally have a pump in the trailer should I need it. I haven't had a puncture since using the BT-23 tyres which makes them better than the BT21s and the Z6 from Metzeler.

Haven't needed to use the gear yet, but carry it everywhere in the RH pannier with some worms and glue.

I carry co2 and a slime compressor. I once used a twist & go to repair a flat tyre in Lightning Ridge
I got back to Toowoomba to get a new tyre

This is what I carry (not used yet) and it all lives in the cut down milk containers.

Brass tyre valve adapter (foreground) is not used now as I have had 90 degree valve stems fitted.

Haven't had a flat yet, but I carry a TyrePlier Bike Kit and extra CO2 cylinders.   The kit includes a little hand pump as well, which would be better than nothing, but only just.

I purchased a dozen CO2 cartriges and keep half of them in my tool kit next to the plugs, worms and slime compressor.

This gives me a few options when out on a lonely road, far from anywhere (and ph reception).

I'd use the Slime compressor 1st - the cartridges are mainly there as a redundancy backup item if the compressor fails. (see here for proof! http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=5380.msg60195#msg60195 )

Even if you have 2 or 3 cartriges, it may be enough to help you 'limp' to the next town's servo.


I have taken even further measures now by fitting this ... Self sealing tyres - click here


A lot more confidence now in getting to B from A without flotsam and jetsum ruining the pleasure.

have mini compressor, reamer, plugs and co2, have never had to use any, but great insurance and plenty of room to carry on ST1300

Me too............I carry the same thing on the bike and never had to use it on the bike, but I had a puncture on my car while I was parked at home 24 months ago so was able to use the kit to plug the screw hole, I used a larger compressor to inflate the tyre of course, that was over 30,000 kls ago and the tyre has never lost air since and is still going strong! I'm really impressed with the plugs because it was a big fat screw! Of course I'm pretty impressed with the guy who did the repair as well................ha ha!
