SEQ and Northern NSW rain/floods

Just saw the rain and floods on the news. Does not look that flash for those affected areas.    Hope anyone up there is ok.  And that the roads are ok as that is my personal interest for  February.

nothing unusual for NSW, creeks go up amd down pretty quick, locals know the alternate route. Worst part is the time it takes to back track to the higher road.  unless it sets in for a week or more, then we go no where.

hee,hee, hee. Nice to live up on a mountain range. Couldn't see the coast yesterday for cloud and got 150mm overnight. Took the three day fall to 280mm in addition to the 140mm on one day last week. Seems the wet weather gear will be out for sometime to come on the blackall range.

I honestly wish we could get just some of it!................haven't had a drop of rain in weeks, and very little for months :(.

I'm on tank water and if we don't get some soon I'll be buying water yet again!! I brought 3000 gallons only a few months ago ($170) so it's getting a bit  exy!! Just a few inches will do for a start!!

It is amazing to think that Tasmania is a bit short on rain.  But I remember drouhts in south west victoria when I was younger, and it is normally a reliably wet place, oftenm too wet in winter.

Tassie generally has quite a bit of rain on the Western side, but we get very little on the Eastern side. Even when it does rain here it's usually very light rain. I haven't seen heavy rain since I left Brisbane 4 years ago.

You may not be aware, but, Hobart is the second driest city in Australia.

Wow! I always thought of the apple isle as being quite wet. How does it stay so green then?

My wife comes from Launceston, so Hobart is barely mentioned :)

I also believed that before we moved here but it's not the case, believe me. There are wilderness areas that stay quite green but there are many other areas that dry out badly, particularly through the central areas. I've driven many times from Devonport to Hobart on the Midland Highway and never seen a green blade of grass. Because we don't get excessive heat in summer it doesn't take a lot of rain to green things up again. The ground is very dry at the moment. We were supposed to get rain today...................but we didn't get a drop on the Peninsula............that often happens!!
In the 4 years that we've been here we've had to buy water 6 times and we're careful about how much we use. I have 2 x15,000 litre tanks and a smaller one, and our tanks have only overflowed twice from rain in that period of time.

water tanks are overflowing again.
This little village of Mapleton just seems to attract rain.
Although there something really nice abt a ride along the range from the Maleny direction when the clouds are on the range.
Tassie; went there - stayed a few days and left. Not because it wasn't nice. That summer in the 8o's the whole island seemed to be on fire. Couldn't see the scenery for the smoke. Altho did find arthur river and stayed a few days.

A timely reminder for ST pilots living in any of those water affected areas to watch out for the appearance of new pot holes, and the ones you already know about may have become exponentially worse.         

Also land slips can close your fave roads for months too.

Good advice Diesel.....................I do feel for those who are having flood problems, and for those suffering excessive heat over in the west.

We have another corker day today.......8.45am right now, not a cloud in the sky, no wind, 15 degrees.................might just throw the leg over the bike this morning!!  We have our annual regatta here tomorrow, speed boat racing, swimming, running, kayaking, sailing, fun things for the kids, etc. then we have a food feast, music, singing, etc at the oval after the event which usually continues until midnight.

Looks like a busy weekend coming up...........................bugger, wish we could get some rain!

flash floods all over the lower gold coast all morning, a couple of places i was last through. saw 3 prangs in a mornings bus driving, idiots not slowing down
kept raining in the tweed/ coolangatta.
left home at 4 this morning, didn't rain till dawn when i reached the gold coast

Agree with Pault feel sorry for tas and WA.
Copped 135mm since 5am till 3pm.
Was thinking abt going out to west qld for a run to dry out but now they are predicting big rains out there.
