It is now confirmed that my last day at work is 27 April 2012. being paid to leave a year early is so sad

That means I can now offer a service for those riders too busy to ride themselves. I can use either you bike or mine, for a nominal fee. Have any accessories you need road tested more then you can do yourself? Give me a yell. Mobile mechanical services may be available

That's a mighty generous offer, Saaz! You'll come to Brisbane to ride my bike for me and I only need to pay you!!

Do I have to pay for your riding time to reach here? Will you ride quickly or stuff around to make it more expensive for me?

Promotional offer of free riding to the bike's location! Maybe just a daily rate regardless of distance, and a beer allowance

Everyone I know that has retired are hard to get hold of as they are busier than ever. I want to get back into beer brewing, do some mountain biking to keep fit and try and catch up on all the forums I am on, since have have concentrated mostly on Ozstoc lately. I can feel some IBA FarRides coming on as well.

I envy you, I'd love my lot to pay me to walk out the door, but they have started the redundancy saga three times with me now and each time have rescinded it at almost the the last moment. They have been making people redundant for the last 4 years, but each time they get to me they find some new excuse to keep me on! Mind you it's going to cost them big time when they do get round to it, I've been there for almost 12 years and also have all my long service accumulated!!

I am planing on attending as many Ozstoc rides, official or unofficial, as I can, wherever they are. In doing that will also do FarRides everywhere as there is a good cross over there. Also have to keep the wife happy so may turn up in the car sometimes. Tasmania and NZ are definite things I have to do, as the wife comes from Launceston (can't go to Hobart obviously!)

While I am looking forward, it is now staring to hit me that 31 years of my life are about to end. I am sure I will get over it

with some therapy

and doing stuff

Wow Yeah!!! I retired 2 years ago after 30+ years in the Ambulance Service were I treated, were I treated....oh and were I did, did, did...bloody hell the weather's been great lately and and some great rides and pub meals with some great blokes, and off the Anzac Day footy with good tickets, and was give even better tickets to see Prince a little later on...now were was I

I retire in 3 years,by then I will have put in 35 years full time teaching. Plan A is to spend 12 months living in Vancouver BC, and spend some time touring the Canadian Rockies.....It cant come soon enough!

After 31 years here time for some sort of change. I may end up doing something, just not as close to politics and high pressure situations where you don't have much control of the agenda. The way politics is turning out it looks bleak for the future and I don't want to deal with it directly anymore.

Besides which, my kms per year riding aveage is woeful and has to be fixed.

Which will happen pretty quickly when you start travelling around and helping us out by doing some of our riding for us.
I've got a trip across the Simpson Desert in Summer planned that I'll get you to quote on.

Whatever turns you on Harie, certainly not for me. I retired at 62 and have loved every minute since (now 67). As they say, "each to his own"

I think it depends on whether you love your "work" or not.

I enjoy my work very much and retirement seems like cruel torture :)

I may feel differently when I am older and more cynical of the world, not to mention a bit creakier.
