Speaking of ex police 1100s, I am overlooking mine from Dome at Scarborough Beach and what a lovely sight it is... :-)

The advantage of ther ST1100P is that they were fitted with the 40 Amp alternator right from the start, civvie versions had the 26 Amp alternator until 1996 (probably some still sold with the 26 Amp alternator as 97 models).

The 40 Amp alternator is just a little sturdier, especially if you're fitting spots, sirens, flashing lights and a heavy duty radio system.

They do have the bigger right hand bar switch block on them, nothing works, and they have the original Police wire loom taped off under the seat.
At my age you realise something very important, then ten minutes later you've forgotten it.

The pre-96 police models also had the 28amp alternator, but they did have a heavier duty regulator/rectifier that would be well worth fitting to civilian models.  Over in the UK with salted roads and tear round riding, the old 28amp alternator has some advantages from not being corroded, the 40 amp alternator being air cooled rather than sealed.

Oh, they work all right, they just arent connected to anything.  Its not hard to connect the switches up to run things.

Just have a look at my diagram..
