Sorry Skip and Tully, there have been some riders out there on other forums that have suggested using pipe insulation from Bunnings or places like Clark Rubber, not that I would recommend that.

Ok. Understood. Not sure pipe insulation would be a satisfactory density.

My heated grips are under the original grips, but they still work well. Never had any problems, not that I have used them very much, living in Queensland.

I used grip puppies on my Super Tenere. Heated grips work fine through them. However I got rid of them after three long rides testing them because despite having quite large hands the increased diameter of the grips actually made it less comfortable for me and made my fingers ache.

I'm hoping it will go the other way for me Craig. I have large hands and the original grips are too small and makey fingers ache

For me the larger diameter helps with my hands, plus being a bit softer.

They arrived yesterday. :runyay
I tried using Hand Sanitizer to slip them on and could only get them half.
After persusting for 15 minutes I tried using liquid soap and water.  They slipped on in 10 seconds each. I left them to dry out overnight. They worked great this morning.

I had to trim about 5 mm to make them fit the :st13blu.
Cheers,
Gary

I use my wife's hair spray, it works great and  doesn't need a lot

I put grip puppies on STranger a few days ago and today test rode them.
The main issue I have is that the throttle doesn't retract when I let ease my grip. I have to physically wind it back. Its like the grip puppie is too tight and collapsing the plastic sheath and grabbing on the handlebar and STicking
I will take it back off and see if it retracts normally

OR use it as a cruise control   :eek  and try to remain vigilant   ;-*
the grip puppies DO take away vibrations though,  :like

The right puppy might have been pushed to far along the handle, and is pressing /rubbing on the fixed part of the handle.

I think I may have found the cause of my grip puppie holding throttle on. here's a pick of when I first put it on before FIX.

All I did was as I was trying to take it off, pulled it back about 1cm and I'll see if that did anything, and twisted the throttle and it sprung back on its own volition. I pulled it back to where the flange area STarts to widen  :thumbsup
Here's where it is now and I'll leave the excess till after Toowoomba, I may be able to roll it onto bar end for throttle lock.

JuST a simple thing had the capacity to do so much damage, and a very simple fix...  :grin ;-*

FITTING OBERSERVATION pull up to the STart of FLANGE area,

save as STevo, use cheapo Chinese heating elements between grips and grip puppies...  works even better then around bars (more thermal insulation between elements and cold bars)

Use a version called "Grip-on" have them on both of my bikes no problems with grip heaters in fact heat feels more even though them. Larger diameter much more comfortable

The following description is an example of a cheap adaptation that works for me.
At one of the local auto parts stores I noticed that there was a selection of foam stripping which had an adhesive backing, similar to the stuff you would use to seal around the edge of a draughty door.
This  stripping was available in varying widths and thicknesses, and was sold by the meter.
I used some to weather seal the top and lid closure of one of my trailers , and I had some left over.
Thinks I thought , the ST handle bars could do with some cushioning, and I thought what would it be like if I was to spiral wrap some of that stuff around the hand grips in a similar way as  to what is on the handle of the tennis racket or the golf clubs.
I tried that and I was pleased with the result, but the surface was very soft and spongy and looked as if it would quickly soak up some water if exposed to rain or heavy dew.
My solution to that was to add a couple of layers of a good quality pvc. black electrical insulation tape wound fairly tightly in a spiral pattern in the opposite direction to the foam.
This compressed the foam a little and made a very comfortable improvement  in the feel of the hand grip for me.as well as slightly increasing the handle diameter which for me was a definite plus.
The finished look could almost be as factory.

A cheap mod but it worked for me.
Cheers to all,
