Title: Neutral Light is on all the time
Post by: Sandman on February 16, 2017, 02:27:46 PM
I recently had some minor work done on my ST 1100. The starter solenoid was buggered and the wiring to it was all messed up, so the emchanic fixed up the wiring and it starts like a dream.
BUT
Now the Neutral light is on when the clutch is in and a gear is selected ???
So, in Neutral, Green light. No problem.
Select 1st. Light still on Huh! Let out the clutch about to the point where it engages and the light goes off.
Riding along, light is off, change gear, pull in the clutch, light goes on, change gear, let out the clutch, light goes off.

After I noticed this I went back to the mechanic and he said the same old, well I didn't touch the clutch!.
I know, but I didn't have this problem before ! (Dumb look and a shrug by the mechanic) so I rode off, with him saying if it's still a problem come back and we'll look at it. Yeh Right.

So, the trusty brains trust of the OZSTOC group. Any thoughts?

I did notice that the clutch oil looks low. Could that be the problem? Unlikely but you never know.
Thanks in advance.

I just did a search on the web and a US based ST site shows the problem is the Clutch diode, which is located, you guessed it, next to the starter solenoid.
So problem sorted except for getting the mechanic to agree to fix it.
Wish me luck
