Title: what fork oil??
Post by: creeture3 on August 20, 2017, 11:59:02 AM
O.k., back again, ( 1999 ABS/CBS/ABS)

Finished the fork oil change and went for a ride

F*C^N terrible!! All F/E compliance gone, "crashes"  over bumps and the ride is shocking. No "give" at all............

Put in Motul 10 wt in both legs, and measured the depth according to the manual ( 136 mm left leg, 140 right )

What weight oils are others using, and to what volumes ?

O.k., after a short bit of research, it seems that the recommended Honda fork oil ( SS - 7 ) is a 5 wt oil.

Maybe that explains it........................

Ah well, at least I will now know how to pull the forks off/apart......................

Yep, got it all sorted. I was an idiot. After doing so many fork oil changes over the past 40 years, I managed to stuff this one up for some unknown reason. Must be the Alzheimer's kicking in.............

Anyway, now done properly and all good.............

Interestingly, the right leg only took 240 ml to get to the right level instead of the 530 ml mentioned in manuals. This of course was due to not dismantling the forks.
