Only a new member, so hi to everyone.
Probably a old question, but I'm wanting to purchase a pair of "tip over guards" and Highway pegs for my ST1300 any help would be great.

Motorcycle Larry (MCL) in the USA is a supplier of great quality accessories for the ST. Follow this link to their range of ST1300 bits and bobs. Quite a few of us are using MCL products and I have a set of their highway pegs. :thumb

Risers, Seat modification and After Market Screen seem to the holy trinity of mods that many have done to improve the comfort of the ST1300.

They seem to be out of stock all the time and they haven't replied to my emails.
I've tried to contact them for 2 weeks now, hence my post here. I thought someone may have had some for sale.
I've even tried wreckers etc..

See attached photo of rear tip over bars,
I believe the are from a 1500 goldwing , Needed a bit of a tweak to make the mounting holes line up but other wise very cheap and satisfactory.

Those look clunky compared with the MCL design. I wonder if there's anyone in Oz who would take up the challenge to replicate the MCL pegs. I know (having met him) that Lorien Vale is an expert machinist but he's not into manufacturing.

It seems that after trying to contact MCL and speaking to some guys in the states, this is the situation.
MCL are no longer in business and I can't purchase the manufacturing jigs for any of their products.
Mick-o- products are also no longer made.
My options are very slim, but one is to try and have some manufactured here in Oz!!!
I've only been in the ST seen for 5min and hit the wall already.

Hi gone cruising I fitted a set of tip over bars off an GL1800 gold wing to my ST1300
They take a little bit of wrangling and you need longer mounting bolts but it is doable

Thanks Peter, But there don't seem to be any about here in Oz.
Only a few in the states, but the cost of freight puts them over the $200 mark.

R ok I found my on flea bay Chinese think they where $80
A mate found some at a place that did trike conversions. They take them off when they trike the wings

I had located the goldwing tip-over bars for around $50 US + exchange rate + Freight worked out to be over $250. landed.
Then on top of that have a adapter plate made.
I have been working with a local fabricator today and will do more tomorrow and see what we can come up with.
I'll keep you all posted.

Maybe he can copy the MCL highway pegs too. They're not rocket parts.

I have just bought a set of chrome bars and th3 mounting block adaptors from the supplier that Shiney used through PayPal and it cost around $207 AUD delivered.
I had a look at those fitted to Shiney’s bike at Wooli and was impressed, Shiney has fitted black bars while I have chosen to go with the chrome.

Well there's no standing still here.
The manufacturing of the Tip-Over Bars "Prototype" has already been made and will be tested next week!
Pic's of them has already been sent to some members showing them in their raw state!!!
If all works out, production and photos will commence shortly after.
As for the Highway Pegs.
One of the members has been kind enough to loan us his to look over and start the project early next month.
I'll keep you posted.

Come to a complete stop and over she went!!!!!! Don't tell anyone lol. It had to happen some time and I'm sure it wont be the last.
No damage to the panniers and a slight graze on the front bar wing cover, and a bloody big dent in my pride.
I've gotta get those highway pegs done!!!
The only thing is that these first ones are a little heavy. thinking of maybe using 20mm S/S tubing instead of mild bar. It would cut the weight down heaps. I'll keep you posted.

You're in good company, as many of us have dropped our bikes. Mine's been over three times, the first time on the day that I picked it up brand new. :fp She's only suffered some scratching on the tip-over bar covers, and a tiny ding on the exhaust.

I dropped my ST four times over the seven years I had her all in similar circumstances. The only damage it ever suffered was some scuffing on the downed side tip over bar cover. The panniers never received as much as a scratch. A brilliant design job by the Honda engineers.
I recently had my new Yamaha Tracer knocked off its side stand by a reversing car (We were in the coffee shop across the road!) It cost him (read his insurance company) a new pannier and rear footpeg mounting bracket plus some scuffing on the handle bar and engine cover. One up for Honda!

I was starting to wonder how the R&D was progressing. The weight saving is good. Let him know he has a ready market here! Any idea on price at this stage?

Sorry for the delay in response to your questions, but I've been away.
I spoke to the fab guy and we have the idea of changing the tip-over bars from round bar to s/s tubing.
This will save weight and give the option of a polished or painted finish.
He has also been away so nothing has happened for the last 3 weeks.
I will keep you posted.

I fitted the Goldwing guards a while back and am very glad I did.
Mrs Biggles and I had an off in Tassie. We'd stopped to photograph these Irises. It was a single lane road, so I'd pulled off the edge. Unfortunately, when I opened the throttle, the back wheel spun in mud and the bike went down. There was no way I was going to attempt to stop it faaling, with fully loaded luggage and a pillion. I stepped off and Leonie landed on her hands and hip. Thanks to gloves and bike pants she had no injuries at all, but did need to check her phone soon after, as you do.

Note how clear of the road everything is. Leonie says it makes it a bit more difficult to get on the bike, as it takes an inch of space from behind the pillion pegs. But not only is the bike protected, but the riders can't be trapped under the bike either.
If I'd bothered to attempt a lift, the guards hold the bike at an angle that makes it a bit easier. But we only had to wait a couple of minutes before one of my regular angels turned up.

Glad to hear that you, Leonie and bike came through intact. It reminds us all that we need not only protection for ourselves but the bike as we'll. I will have to look into these bars.

Glad to read that you avoided damage to rider. pillion and bike. ++ I've fitted a set of engine guards to the Beemer, but the rear (pannier) guards cost more than a new pannier, so they are on the back burner. Go figure!!

I dropped mine checking tyre pressures in Angelsea last year. A broken hand guard was the only damage but I had to buy a pair to replace them. Fortunately it was damage that didn't stop me completing the trip, but as someone else said above the biggest injury was to my pride.

I concur Bill, having fitted the Goldwing bars to STrangler and stopping on gravel at Glendambo FR over went the bike, STinky Pete was witness to this.. but there was no real damage sustained,, a few scratches to the engine bar cover,, but the pannier held clear of impact.. a Farkle worth every cent. ++
