Hello all, prospective member from Brisbane here.
I've recently returned from the UK and am currently looking for my next bike. Shortly before I left the UK, the local bike shop gave me the keys to one of their Pan Europeans and told me to take it for a ride... So now here I am looking for a ST1300.
I've just been on a test ride on an ex police bike, great ride, but I miss the second seat and topbox. Alchemist post on converting the seat while great doesn't fill me with confidence in taking on that job.
Fingers crossed I'll find a suitable ST1300 soon. (Or that honda will come to their senses and start making new ones again)
Hope to see you all on the road soon.

Welcome Bill from another Brisbane guy. If you stick around you might even get to meet another Brisbane Bill.
We all rather like our STs, and they pop up quite regularly as secondhanders. Depending on your budget, a little patience can still reward you with a low K unit.

Welcome from Korumburra, Victoria, Bill! :beer

Hi Bill,
A warm welcome from just North of Brisbane. :hatwave
We have a Ride To Eat (RTE) coming up soon, and you'd be most welcome to join us, even without an ST.

Good morning and welcome from Adelaide. :hatwave
I used to live in Brisvegas in the 90's and went for a small detour there on the way to an RTE in Halls Gaps in 2017.

Hi Bill and welcome to OzSTOC from SA. :hatwave I'm sure you will find a suitable ST1300, and try to find a 2008 onwards as they included the last improvemnts to the model. Once you have tracked down a candidate I am sure someone on the forum would be willing to have a look at it for you. Unfortunately, none of us expect Honda to come to thewir senses :fp

G'day Bill, Welcome to the forum :hatwave
I'm sure with a little patience you'll find a suitable ST and in the mean time (as Gadget said) your more then welcome to come along to any RTE's you like :thumbsup
Cheers

Hi Bill. I'm that other "Bill" Steve alluded to. I've had a bit to do with the STs, both 1100 and 1300, so I know you've lucked-in to the best sports tourer for the money ever made. It seems the people who buy and ride them are a pretty special bunch too, so do take their advice and get along to their RTEs.

Thanks for the warm welcomes :)
Given that Wild Rose sold his bike before I could get my hands on it (But not before I sent an excited inquiry :'( )
does anyone have any tips for buying interstate? Specifically WA:

The W.A roadworthy certificate won't be valid in Queensland so perhaps you can save a few bob by buying the bike without a roadworthy?
You could also ask the seller to cancel the unused rego and to then knock that amount off the purchase price?
Obviously that last suggestion is assuming you wouldn't be riding the bike back to Queensland... :/

....does anyone have any tips for buying interstate? Specifically WA:
I'm in Adelaide and purchased my current ride from a private seller in Sydney. Having just 2,500km on the clock after 12 months and being still under manufacturers warranty I bought it unseen, but saw lots of photos and had a couple of phone calls with the owner. I did a bank transfer as a deposit, and said I'd give him a bank check for the balance once I'd seen the bike. I flew to Sydney, liked the bike, filled in the NSW rego transfer, handed over the cheque and rode her home to Adelaide. Once home, the e-registration in SA was painless and just needed a form and an inspection of the VIN and Engine Number at at a Vehicle Identy Inspection Station. Costs in SA were the usual registration fees, and stamp duty on the sale.
It was all pretty painless. :thumb

We dont actually have them as a rule in WA. I guess you could take the bike to an inspection station and request one, but they arent needed here to transfer registration on purchase.

So the WA bike is a bust. After talking to me on the phone, I received a text this morning with: "I have decided not to sell my motorcycle at this time". Fortunately I hadn't booked a flight to Perth, but I may have to think about my pre-sale phone technique :think1
The good news is I have put a deposit down on a bike at western motorcycles in Penrith/Sydney. I may be able to get a friend to check it out in person rather than take the word (and pictures) of the dealer. However if that falls through:
Are there any ozstoc members who live in or close to Penrith who wouldn't mind checking that the wheels are bolted on and the bike tracks straight when you take your hands off the bar?
-
I bought my firST ST1300 from a Dealer in Penrith and rode it home to Brisbane on a dealers permit then got what was then Shogun Honda to do the roadworthy and then off to main roads for the plates ......very easy process.

I was only going by the ad, it said roadworthy supplied...but, I guess it's all moot now! :thumbs

Let me know if you find one. Every one of my ST1300s has tracked to the right with hands off the bar. :eek
