I would've been in my early 60's when I said the same, and I was missing out on a few rallies.  Mates (who had trailers) said, "Get a trailer."  I steadfastly refused, but relented in the end.

Nearly perfect, room for a large tent, double air mattress, cooking & eating gear, table chairs and gazebo.

All of the above, but sleeping off the ground, and a lot more space.

Plenty of room for all my camping needs & wants, only upgrade since above pic is the inclusion of a stretcher tent.
