Title: Screens for the ST1100
Post by: Streak on January 08, 2012, 04:36:17 PM
Hi Gents,
I am pondering getting a slightly larger screen for the  :blk11, i have a standard screen on it at the moment, but as is well known, i just get that bit of buffeting on my screen that drives me a tad mad.

any suggestions or reccomendations? i don't think i need a much larger screen, but something that is say 30-40mm higher i think would solve the problem i am having.

Mate,

Try Eagle Screens in Perth - I got mine about 75mm taller - solved most buffeting - only now when visor fully down of flip face.

A mate here in Brissy recently acquired his from A J Plastics - I think in Albion )Brissy)

Just 2 recommendations.

Both happy ST...ers (and both ST 1100 - if it counts)

Bob

The first long distance ride I did on my 13 I was ready to take it back to the Honda Shop & get my Black Bird back.
The buffetting shit me to tears.
Now I have the lower screen I love it ,I very rarely raise it & then only to amuse myself while on the road.
So larger is not necessarily better well at least in my case anyway

I got a new Eagle screen just before Xmas, an extended sreen. It works well. I was getting buffet and helmet noise, but now greatly reduced. No increase in fuel consumption noted..

1.     Summer  (300mm) for $170

2.     Trimmed (360mm) for $175

3.     Standard (420mm) for $190

4.     Medium*   (500mm) for $220

5.     Extended* (545mm) for $240

6.     Touring*   (570mm) for $260

* Only available in New Straight style (H-72)

Optional extras are :-

a.     Cat-eye vents  $25 (Rubber trim not included)

b.    Black backing $25 (not usually required with Tinted screens)

c.     Side Wings $20 (sides are extended and subtly flared out to send the air wider)

I am running the Eagle screen with winglets. Works very well. I haven't bothered to refit the laminar lip I have, whcih did improve the standard screen a  lot.

Hi Alan, what did you think of it? Did it change the buffeting much?

Hi Alan, what did you think of it? Did it change the buffeting much?

The standard screen was a little to short for my height at 178cm. The air would flow over the screen and hit the upper half of my helmet. That's ok around town but at highway speeds it can get a bit tiring on the neck muscles. Just as a rough test I put my hand on top of the screen and the air flow went just above my helmet.

Since having the taller screen I can hear more engine noise etc as the all I hear would be the wind noise from the as the air used to hit at visor level and flow around sides of helmet.

I did have a look at the Eagle screens option but the English one looked more like the original.

Next one up from standard. The bike has a slightly lowered seat though, but it just means it is close to needing a slight trim.  I am 178cms as well.

thanks Alan and Saaz, I am a bit of a short ar$% and my seat has been custom made so i could reasonably touch the ground.  I was considering a new screen but both the screens you guys have would need to be cut down for me.  I currently use the laminar lip and think I will keep it but make it a bit more easily adjustable somehow. again thanks

Definitely mine is on the edge of needing to be cut down slightly, but it does make you look ahead above the screen, and to clean the screen more often!

With my saddleman gel seat I also sit a little lower and the top of the screen is at about eye level but when I have the goat skin seat cover (yes goat skin I was recently told (not sheep as I thought)) on I'm looking over the screen.

I might just fit the sheepskin cover I have sitting around, as that might save having to think about triming the screen

+1 for the laminar lip, have had mine on for three years and it takes away all the noise. I'm 5'10" and get nothing unless I am following another vehicle which breaks the air movement.
