Title: seat modsO
Post by: creeture3 on July 04, 2014, 06:04:16 PM
O.K., thrillseekers, as a new member, my first serious post. I suffer from "Ducks Disease" (i.e.:my bum is built close to the ground), and I would like to get my ST1100's  seat modified to suit. After looking on the interweb thingy, I found this:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360959591468?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360959591468?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649)

Now, I would rather pay a good Aussie place to do something like this, so, my question is:

Does anyone have any positive experiences from any motor trimmers in Victoria/Melbourne that could do a similar job? And, can anybody post some examples of such?

Had a look there, but it still seems that the "inseam" distance is not really catered for. I had bought the bike with a sheepskin cover for the seat, and when I removed it, the 1/2" made a difference.

A fantastic trimmer is Alan,  2 Olive Grove, Ringwood 9870-2747

He did work for my VT750 and a friends Triumph SpeedTripple R, reasonable prices, tell him Zev sent you (he will charge double..just kiddin)

I purchased a Sargent seat for my 1300, and it is MUCH better than stock

Welcome Creeture3 :grin

Mate I would like reccomend someone like John Moorehouse (Brisbane), but like a lot of other well regarded motorcycle seat trimmers, he sets you up for an optimum riding position and not how you cope when stationary.

If, as I read you are vertically challenged, be aware the more foam that is removed in order to bring ya bum closer to terra firma, the broader the seat becomes and may compromise holding the bike steady by the steat digging into an inner thigh.

I'm on the Gold Coast at present, but live in Sunbury, so when I get home your very welcome to try my low cut Corbin, to experience what I  saying.

Cheers the can :-)

Yes. I see from your pictures what you mean. Something to be careful of.

I find the modified seat more comfortable than the original, it is actually narrower.
Have done Coffs to Home no worries or soreness.
Combined with risers is just right for me.
Now with taller screen courtesy of John, ride is just right

Good luck with your research, but your original thought on Saddlemen, may be your best option. Write ups seem to attest to them

Ciao the can :-)

I'm not looking for a seat atm. I am coming to grips with the seat I have, and really, all it needs is a little forward planning, and a bit of confidence, which I am gaining. As I said elsewhere, at first it was like driving a semitrailer, now it just feels like a truck!

Thanks for the offer.

If you just want your existing seat redone to fit your size Mick at MJM in Goulburn does a great job and is worth having a chat to or checking out his web site

My recently refurbed John Moorhouse seat :grin, which will hopefully give some respite to my aging three score and two backside which my 17 year old Corbin Canyon hasn't been doing of late :-[

Greencan, is John Moorhouse still working? I read of a few health issues and wasn't sure that he was still working.  Do you have his current details?  I'd love for him to do my seat.

Thanks
Nate

Nate et al, evenin'....

Mate l have sent U a personal message with the details your after...John is now working from home...all he asks is that U have a photo of yourself seated on your bike, feet up on the rests, both hands on the bars and have the pic taken from your LEFT...too easy :thumb

Have a chat with him, for moi, as the seat cushion foam on the seat I gave him to work with had been 'carved' up a bit by a previous owner, John cut it back further and fixed and shaped a premium foam to the shape you see in the pic above. The pillion is stock, but length is reduced approx 25-30mm (to my request), as l am returning the handle bar height back to original setting.

Hope that helps.

Cheers the can :-)

Thanks Dick, greatly appreciated for the details.  The above isnt too difficult, might have to locate a 2nd seat to use while John works on mine, as I cant go a day without the boy...  Should be too difficult!

Thanks again.

Nate, I am changing to a solo seat. I will be in bris for a few days 21-23 Sep to pick it up. My seat will be available if you would like to borrow it. It has been lowered to suit me (also duck's disease). Maybe we could arrange something for then.

Let me know if you want to do it this way.

Cheers
Grumpy

Sorry Paul,  I missed this.

At 178cm (5'10") I don't have an issue with feet on the ground with this or the OEM seat which was only replaced because it needed to be recovered.

I did have problems with the OEM seat causing me to sit closer to the front causing my knees to hit the grey fairing inner panel. With the Saddleman I sit a little further back and all is good.
