Don't they (000 operators) track your position anyway?, I mean what if you pass out mid callThey can geo locate based on your address info you gave, but if the phone drops out then they have no further info to go on. It happens a lot :wink1 I have been sent out on a case at normal speed to investigate a possible rider off a motorbike query a hoax, whose phone went dead half way thru the call and could not be contacted again. We did find a rider with a leg injury.
Ummm ... I thought in the original post it said that it uses the gps to send distress via satellite so no need for phone coverage.

Emergency + Smartphone App
Smartphone apps and Triple Zero (000)
Australia’s Triple Zero Awareness Working Group has developed a smartphone app for iOS and Android devices to:
- provide the caller with information about when to call Triple Zero
- provide the caller with information about who to call in various non-emergency situations
- State Emergency Service (SES) (132 500)
- Police Assistance Line (131 444)
- Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000)
- Health Direct Australia (1800 022 222)
- National Relay Service
- assist the caller to dial the relevant number
- display the GPS coordinates of the phone's location that the caller can read out to the emergency operator.
Ummm ... I thought in the original post it said that it uses the gps to send distress via satellite so no need for phone coverage.that is correct. If you are out of mobile range it will automatically dial 112 which will connect any GSM mobile to the satellite network at no charge. I believe a requirement in Aus since about 2005?

Ummm ... I thought in the original post it said that it uses the gps to send distress via satellite so no need for phone coverage. For this you would need a PLB and after having a crash out of mobile reach I was lucky the schoolbus coming past carrying a sat phone. This got me quick to hospital at 214kmh. I carry a PLB with me on my body on all rides. You never know where you go and end up.
