Title: bugg'd screen
Post by: creeture3 on July 16, 2015, 07:05:52 PM: Hi folks. I have lots of dead and baked on bug gut on the screen. It doesn't seem to want to come off, and I don't want to use anything rough. Tried washing with car washes etc.I know that some car care products are put out to clean off dead bugs, but I don't want to try them on the screen in case it gets stuffed.

Any suggestions as to how to get rid of the muck?

Post by: richo on July 16, 2015, 07:09:50 PM: Hi. I had a similar problem and if your not in a hurry to clean it. A wet towel left on the screen for a couple of hours rehydrated the bug guts and they came off ok. In a hurry I use ct18 truck wash.

Post by: Gadget on July 16, 2015, 07:11:22 PM: Have you tried soaking a chamois and laying that on the screen for a while to soak the big guts? Leave it there and wet it with a hose if need be.

After they have soaked, then scrub with the chamois.

I carry a damp chamois on the bike and at the end of the ride, wipe the screen and helmet clean before the bug guts dryb out.

Post by: JuST Peter on July 17, 2015, 09:59:06 PM: If you go to the supermarket and look in the cleaning aisle, you should find what's called a Magic Sponge. Soak it in water, then squeeze about 2/3 out and wipe over your screen. Hard bits might need bit of elbow grease, but it's safe to use on your screen and visor too if you want.Just don't try it on your paintwork otherwise you might end up with minute scratches.
just keep it moistened in a press seal bag for next time too :thumb

I normally don't use Plexis to clean the whole bike but have on occasions I have, I mainly use it on my screen and visor
Last time I bought some Plexis, I got 2 tins from Toowoomba Honda because they were reduced because the lids were cracked :grin

Also, it is antistatic so will repel dust for some time.
