Port Augusta Again - 01-02-2016
« on: February 02, 2016, 02:40:08 PM »
I guess this sort of qualifies as ride report since we did in fact ride over and it was nothing more than a shopping trip.

After yesterday's mail arrived it was found to have contained a fuel voucher offer if we rented another item.

The main topic of discussion was will we or won't we and if we did what would the item be. After a quick glance at the store website it was decided that a new camera would be the go and two choices became evident. This is the one we chose as best for us http://www.nikon.com.au/en_AU/product/digital-compact-cameras/performance/coolpix-p610 but not available in any of their stores but could be ordered direct and we would have to wait at least three weeks.

The next best for us was an entry level DSLR http://www.nikon.com.au/en_AU/product/digital-slr-cameras/d3300#overview which we did eventually decide to take as it was in stock just waiting for someone to waste their money on. All I need now is to waste more money on a lens and a 55-200mm might be the one but no rush.

To get to the Port we left at 1:50 and arrived at the store at 3.20 and left the store at closing time. Being Monday head office in Adelaide must have been swamped with rental approvals so people could get a fuel voucher. We also get a $150 fuel card (BP I think) so it'll come in handy for our next RTE (hopefully).
From there we went to the supermarket for a few items and then stopped off at KFC at about 6pm for some much need food and it was 8:15pm and 260km later when we arrived home.

Once I learn a little more about it.......hopefully in a couple weeks I'll have worked out a little more than just the basics.

Bloody good looking camera mate :thumbsup
Yes, it looks good should deliver.

Only minor issue is the lack of a wide screen (16.9) setting and the flash auto pops up if the shot is two dark. Early days yet so no drama yet.

I should had that I must thank the cashier is the store. She advised the salesman to phone up the Adelaide office to see if they could get the approval done a bit quicker. The excuse was that it could get dangerous riding back late as the roos would prevent a major issue for us. Really nice of her but I think it was more to do with getting close to closing time and they don't get paid overtime.

We didn't see any roos on the way back but we almost had BBQ lamb. 4 sheep crossing the road in front of us this side of Wilmington was not something I needed but all good. Then a single sheep running a long the side of the road was another possible incident about 20 km from home.

For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Not that far about 320 km each way - but card can help with the cost if we get in time.

I took a couple of tryout shots on the new cam and for want of a better subject the ol' girl was it. Photo heavily reduced down from the 6000 x 4000 high quality resolution setting I had and after I cropped it to 16:9 widescreen.

I have been following this thread but seem to hve missed what the tental item was or were. Must have been good as thats a good fuel card as a bonus.

There were three fuel card offers depending on the value. The $150 card was for a value of goods between $499 & $999 then a $250 card for between $1000 & $1999 card for over products valued at $2000 or more a $400 Fuel Card!. I didn't put up the rental term but to keep the payment low I took it over five years. We don't have to pay anything at the end of term and its ours but I usually end up paying the contract out early. The cam if we paid cash would have been $599.

Great camera, good choice, will it mount on the bike? Heather is soo much more photogenic than even a Blue 1100!

I wonder if they still have that deal on?

The mounting on the bike idea has crossed my mind but only on a mount on the dash shelf. But the bike is so much easier.[/quote]

They say a VIP offer so it may not apply to all renters or new customers. Runs out end of Feb. https://www.radiorentals.com.au/my-rrs/offers-and-redemptions/february-vip-offer/
