Trip to Nambucca Heads 13/02/16
I was originally planning to do this trip as a FarRide, but with time constraints and work, it didn’t eventuate.
I didn’t leave toowoomba until 10am as my daughter was playing cricket and batting really well so I hung around to watch her innings.
It was a glorious Saturday to be riding, I took the slab down through Warwick, Stanthorpe till I turned onto the Gwyder Hwy, and my day really began, tucking into the twisites, and ruining my fuel economy in the process (struggled to 370km).
Lost another nut out of my chain guard, but nothing 4 zip ties won’t fix , got myself a happy snap and away I went down the hill for a sanga and fuel at Jackadgery,
Over to Grafton and down the road to Nambucca Heads, one of my favourite places in Australia.
Pulled in next to my great mate Diesel, and setup camp, and true to form Diesel had some ice cold hydration products ready to go…
My new toys worked a treat with my micro camping chair, clip on led torch doing their jobs perfectly, I also put my air mattress, sleeping bag laid out inside my tent and roll it all out as one unit, so all I do is peg out tent, put it up, fill the mattress and I am good to go.
We had $10 fish and chips from the little café which everyone will attest to was fantastic!
After a few beers and a wine, it was shower and bed for me, and I slept like the dead…prob snored like it to..
I was up early to catch the sunrise, which I have done so every year I have been here, and it never disappoints although my photo is not the best.
It was pack up time, and of course sand everywhere, and for the first time ever Diesel was packed up before me, I am however ringing the park to make sure he simply didn’t throw it in the bushes to hide it!
20 of us rode out to The Anchors Wharf café in Urunga, our yearly tradition for breakfast
this year a little quiet than others, remembering our mate saaz (who passed last year), who was always their front and centre, but saaz mate the scrambled eggs was awesome and I mentally toasted you with a coffee.
From there everyone went their own way, with Diesel, TJ, myself, heading north for Lawrence with Babs & Paul in tow, via Orara Way, and some great little back roads to take in the scenery.
We all had lunch at Casino, and shook hands and said our good byes
so I was on my own from here, so up Summerland way through Kyogle, and over the Lions Road for something different, got a great happy snap.
Boonah for fuel and a sit down as it was getting quite hot, and I am not as bike fit as I should be….
It was a nice gentle run home in the heat, very glad to see toowoomba, wheeled into a servo, bought the wife and kids an ice cream, and myself a couple of powerades, so I was popular when I arrived home.
1,160km all said and done for a great weekend, and I wish I was still riding today
It was great to catch up with Mark and Pam, Peter (I can’t remember the bosses name), Babs and Paul, and Michael there on stroms with myself, mixed in with the great people from FarRiders and OzSTOC it was awesome seeing everyone mix and chat, and the different people that knew each other
