2016-05-20 Ten Years Ago Today

This day ten years ago was the day I bought my ST1100A from a female owner who lived in Bendigo.

I had looked at a couple BMWs, one new and one used in the weeks before with a preference for the used one.



A little above what I could afford so I kept looking and found a '99 1100 with 11,500 km which the finance company said ok to. The lady thought I kidding when I rang her as it seemed the bike had been listed for awhile but no bites.

I arranged to pick up the bike and pay the owner on the 20th/21st of May in 2006 and we would be met at the bus stop at train station in Bendigo. With cheque in hand plus a bag with two helmets and jackets we were up early and made our way to Adelaide bus station.

We were picked up at Bendigo and taken to the bike, a quick inspect and it started 1st go. The bike was advertised as an 1100 but I found it to be an 1100A when seeing it in the flesh. Handed the cheque over and signed the transfer papers over.  A little nervous riding two up on a bike I've never ridden before on my own and stalled it the first set of lights on the way to our overnight accommodation.

Next morning (the 21st) we were up early and on our way along our chosen route North but the cold for us was intense. They had a frost that Sunday morning and we could see the ice on the plants beside the road so I slowed down to about 60k/h to keep the wind chill factor down. Serpentine saw us head for the roadhouse and we sat inside for at least an hour warming up.

There was a park next to the roadhouse so I parked the bike there in the sun while we in the roadhouse.





We stopped of at some of the small towns along the way and had lunch at Swan Hill beside the river. A rest stop at Boundary Bend before aiming for the Shell at Buronga





While fuelling the bike one of the local law enforcers admired the bike. Glad he didn't ask any questions; two South Aussies on a Vic registered bike in NSW might be a little suspicious.

Fuelled the bike up and us and headed to see Heather's mum on the way and we arrived home after a days ride of 770km. Our route home http://goo.gl/maps/MAH9akrbxPk

I've done 177,678km or averaged 17,678 per year. Odometer as of this morning is 189178
