A Royal Tour
« on: March 25, 2018, 05:59:45 PM »
Here's new challenge - take a Royal Tour.

The idea is to take pic of your bike in front of a Royal Hotel, Royal Exchange Hotel, Royal Mail Hotel or any other hotel with "Royal" in the name (I'm sure there will be others) and post them in this thread.

As this is a tour, NEW pics will be required (NOT pics from our photo libraries) of a day ride, an over nighter or a longer trip.  The pics MUST include your ST or significant other bike, some evidence that the hotel in the back ground has some form of royal heritage, location of the hotel and a brief description of the tour route (Google map link or map would be good).

To assist in kicking this off, he a royal link:  http://www.royalhotel.net.au/pubs.php

Let the challenge begin ...........
Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

Nearly a month, 69 views, no replies; this must be too difficult for you guys and gals.

When taking a pic for my "Where's This?" library, I noticed a Royal Hotel and thought, "This'd be the basis of a good ride excuse", as if one is needed.  When planning a route for the Inverloch RTE, I figured, "Why not?", and so here is my Royal Tour.

Royal Hotel, Ferntree Gully:

This is the entrance from the rear car park.  The front is much more impressive, but located on the corner of a very busy intersection, even
at 8:30 on a Saturday morning, taking a pic would not have been prudent.

Royal Hotel, Drouin:

A lot quieter here.  The pub is currently closed for renovations.

Royal Hotel, Koo Wee Rup:

I was impressed with the building, must've been some $$ in Koo Wee Rup back in the 1930's (I'm guessing).

Royal Hotel, Loch:

Now closed, no sign of it being re-opened.  The way lots of pubs are going in rural VIC, and I'm sure other parts of AUS.  Also very impressed with the size of this pub, especially considering Loch has always been a small town.

This was one of the Bonus Scoring series when FarRiders did their Medieval Rally a couple of years ago.  It's amazing how many Royal hotels there are.  Then there's the "Railway" hotel series, "Criterion" and so on.
I must get around to it- I like these fun activities.
Like you say, it's sometimes hazardous trying to get a photo in front of things.  There seems to be a proliferation of yellow kerb lines now I'm looking for town and suburb signs.  If it's quite I'll stop on them, but Plod is ever-vigilant for such transgressions.  Been caught before.   >:()
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Yesterday's Royal Tour was short (around 360km for the day), plenty of stops for pics, picked up a few for "Where Is" and "Find a Town, Make a Word", but not many Royal Hotels, here they are anyway:

Royal Mail Hotel, Whittlesea

Royal Mail Hotel, Yea

Royal Hotel, Seymour

Methinks you guys and gals need a hand - here it is: http://www.royalhotel.net.au/pubs.php

I wasn't aware of this topic until Bodø posted so I'll add in our photo from Balaklava as well.

I'll give these two entries in the Royal Tour thread a "pass", if only just for effort, and as at least these two forum colleagues tried.

But (there's often a but, and sometimes even a hairy butt, or worse a big hairy butt) I can't give full points because the resolution of pics is poor, and thus difficult to clearly read "Royal Hotel", and IMHO a single pic of a single Royal Hotel, does not constitute a Royal Tour.

Admittedly the sign isn't that big and the angle of the sun didn't help, but I thought it was something.

I thought this was the idea.

Yes, that is the idea, that's why I gave you guys a pass, but I was hoping for multiple pics.

.... I thought it was something.

Yes, and Alan and you have contributed more than many others.
