I just called Jude at the High Country Caravan Park, she advised that they have some unpowered camp sites available.

If you don't mind camping, I think this would be preferrable to Benalla.  You can call Jude on 0455 998 852.

Alternatively (if you haven't tried), Bonnie Doon or Merrijig would be better alternatives to Benalla.

Or, one of the local pubs, others have stayed at them.

Late notice but I'm pondering whether we might come.   HCHP is out of cabins (understandably) so I checked the nearby Mansfield Valley Motor Inn.  Their booking site shows a 3-night stay in a Queen Room to cost a monstrous $1060 compared to $500 2 weeks earlier!   I rang them and received a price of $650, but it still seems to me like they are milking a busy weekend.

Strange...I was able to go through the booking procedure right up to where i needed to pay...
It also "held" the booking for a short time while i was going through the process...

Good news.  I succeeded this time so I'll be staying there and not Benalla.  It turns out my card got flagged because I'd being trying to book a lot of places.
