Farride #16 Walkaway
« on: October 22, 2011, 10:07:19 PM »
We had 12 people turn up in Walkaway. Some had even done the 1000 km before they got there! I arrived, with 430 kms on the clock and thought I had done well.
The most popular bike was the GTR, in both forms. 1100 and 1400. I held the flag for the OZSTOC group. Tom on a ST1100 had a few run ins with the wild life. Namely a large bird that broke some plastic under his screen.
There was also a red ST13. He had seen the forum before so hopefully He'll sign up.

After lunch, we started to depart.
Instead of going back down the Brand Hiway, I carried on to Mingenew - Carnamah - Moora and New Norcia.
Still a couple of k's short, I headed for the freeway. Up to Burns Beach and back to Armadale rd.
In total 1001.7kms.
I'm glad I had asked questions of other Farriders, which made bum comfort not to hard to achieve, even with a standard seat.

Moora

New Norcia

I had some showers on the way up to Walkaway. The black clouds all seemed to disappear to the east, so I took off the wet weather pants and changed into my Draggin jeans for the ride home. At Dongara, not very far south from Walkaway, it grew dark again. Into the servo. Change of pants and wets back on again. From the Brand Hiway turn off heading east it showered. In patches it fell in buckets with lightening!
The adjustable screen got a work out for sure. There were grain trucks heading west putting up lots of spray. When one came along the idea was to move to the left as possible, screen up, head down. This kept my visor clean.
The worst bit was riding on the freeway, i mean Mitchell parking lot. I didn't have much wrist or bum pain until I sat on the freeways for the last k's

Well done. I have not been up into WA north of Perth as yet. In fact I did South WA in the early 80s so it has probably changed a bit :)

Sounds like a good run, I was going to stop by Walkaway but plans changed so didn't make it tho at one stage I was 45kms away, trouble is that was Friday. I had a 3 day run  covered 1261kms mostly uneventful cept for being asked by the Lancellin Constabulatory for a donation on Friday (first in 11 years) & oh yes the young asian girl in the Honda car that overtook me on Wanneroo road 70 zone she doing well over 100. I was in the right lane dual carrigeway & she passed me on the right with her right wheels just off the median strip & the left side of her car missed me by inches very close :eek

I have no problems with a meet in WA, just make it in two years time as I will have a lot more spare riding time to use up :)

Goodonya Mal - enjoy your shiny new FarRider number, and put your name on the other post that's here somewhere...

It takes a fair effort, and makes you a better rider than the one you were the week before the FarRide.  You learn heaps, and see some great sites - thanks for sharing.
