Got my helibars from Mick Hone aswell.....best Aust price.....took about 3 stubbies to fit with no re-routing of cables (as I had Gen Mars fitted)....just a changed of angle on the brake/clutch res lines if no previous blocks.

You will be happy for sure....

Well, I got my Helibar Risers in the mail a couple of days ago, and, it being Friday, I fitted them this arvo, following Shiney's explicit and incredibly useful instructions (OK, maybe not absolutely to the letter, but at least to the intent). Took me about 2.5 hours, but I wasn't trying to rush and I did a couple of other little things whilst I was there.

I then took the monSTer out for a spin around the block to see what it felt like. I was actually quite nervous having seen the markedly different position of the grips, but I'm absolutely blown away by how different the bike feels. The upward and backward movement of the bars has pushed my not inconsiderable bum back into the Morehouse-modified seat and made that feel 'just right'. It's changed the angle of my wrists, pushed my back up straighter and completely changed the feel of the bike when I'm riding.

It feels far more like the Goldwing motorised armchair that I took for a test ride over 18 months ago, and somehow has made the experience of cornering feel far easier and far more fluid. I know, but it's hard to explain. It just feels far more 'under control' than it did before. At 6ft 3" I was being forced to lean just that little bit too far forward to be perfectly comfortable, and the sitting position that created  put some strain on my lower back and tended to cause me to lock up on the bars, but with the Risers in, there seems to be no tendency for me to do that.

It is an all together a more comfortable ride, and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to all.

Next job is to hook up the Powerlet  and see what else I can get on the front that needs power.

Thanks Shiney for the "How To", dammed useful mate; certainly made my job easier!!!  :-++

Shiney,
Saaz just fitted my risers for me. Like others I set up the laptop in the garage and followed your instructions.
The only surprise was how tight the bolts were. I had to use a large shifter on the end of the T-bar and again on the end of the rachet handle to get the bolts to move.
We poked the business end of a radio antenna down the centre hole to confirm that it would be possible to route the power cable that way.
Thats a job for this afternoon as soon as I work out where and how to get to the battery.
Thanks for your instructions.

Thanks to Shiney for his How To. :slvr13

I read the post , looked at the pictures and then followed all the Helibar instructions.

Simple Job made even easier, all done in 1 hour. Plus a 10 min test ride.

Definately feels different.

Did mine last night  8)

Shiney your instructions were very helpful. The helibars instructions were fine too but comparing yours with theirs helped to get it straight in my mind.

I missed the bit in your instructions about popping the shiney plastic caps off the hex head bolts. It took a bit of head scratching and staring at those shiney things before the penny dropped.

The only problem I had was because my STeed came with the police riser, the bolts were an inch longer than usual so I had to race off to Bunnings to grab some shorter bolts. Love that they are open until my bed time lol.

Now the STeed has a much more relaxed feel and it’s good to get the weight off the bars. The extra-wide CalSci doesn’t foul the levers on full lock anymore either. The handling is different and will take a few rides to get used to I expect.

All up.... very good mod. Still need to wire in the powerlet but that’s for another day.

A man rides on his STeed, says “Why am I short of attention? Got a short little span of attention”.

You can call me Steve, with apologies to Paul Simon.

Hello Shiney and all with HeliRisers.

My replacement ST1300 was fitted with their HR01033 risers when I bought it.

I've found that I need to unbolt the risers to move them out of the way to lift the petrol tank.

I'm not greatly fussed on any possible benefits from the HeliRisers, as I had ridden 20,000km in 40 days with the factory setup on my original bike, without any comfort problems from the seating position. They don't seem to do much for me, except make life hard, when lifting the tank servicing, so will probably leave them out during reassembly. A replacement RAM mount will be easy and the European accessory socket was never used, anyway.

Questions:
Is it possible to lift the tank in the original way and use the standard rod to support it?
If not, how do you blokes service the air filter etc?

The tank can be raised with the risers attached however I don't use the standard rod to hold it up.
The tank has to be slid all the way back then moved slightly from side to side to clear the switches on the handlebars.

Once it has been raised I use a strap/bungee cord to hold the tank up.

(Below is an old picture showing what I mean)

I hope this helps.

Cheers

OK, thanks. I'll have to persist with the combination of sideways tank movement and handlebar rotation a bit more, by the look of this.

Remember you need to loosen the bolt running through the rear of the tank on both sides to allow the tank to be moved back away from the riser before being lifted.

Yeah, that bit's OK. Without moving the tank back in those slots, it won't clear the HeliRiser base block.

When pushed back and raised, the front corners of the tank come up under the switchblocks on the handlebars and I couldn't find an easy way to wiggle the bars and tank to raise it any higher. Having a near full tank didn't help, either.

All good for now, thanks.

John
