Does anyone know of a great LED camping light?
« on: April 11, 2013, 03:20:49 PM »
Y'know - like the old gas lantern that you had to fit those little socks to - but an LED version, and COMPACT enough for packing on the bike?

Here is my little torch...

Is there a good LED lantern that would work adequately as a campsite light (like the gas lanterns?

Cheers, Diesel

I did buy a "UFO" from BCF for about $10 - I think it was on special. Something like this.

The one I bought even had a keyfob remote control! I bought it here in Perth, tested it - fantastic! Different modes/brightness, and hangs from the top of the tent.

I then took it to Middleton for the rally. Black bike + 43 degrees + plastic light.... melted so bad the batteries wouldn't stay in.  :|||| Into the bin it went.

So, I'd recommend one of these as long as you don't put it in the oven.

We've got a Coleman for when the old electricity goes out. It's led with rechargeable battery or you can put a 9volt battery or it has a cradle where you can put 4 D size batteries in instead.

When camping, I use a "LED Lenser P7" torch, and a "Princeton Tec Quad"  LED headlamp.  Both use AAA batteries, so I'm not carrying a assortment of different size batteries, and they both last for ages.

Have you bought D cells recently?    :eek   You need to mortgage the house to buy them, and I've recently sold two Primus LED lamps that used 4 x D cells, as putting batteries in them was too expensive for me.

I've never put D size batteries in it, but it's an option if you can't find a 9 volt battery. That's the good thing about it is it gives a range of options to power it.

I thought that was a good thing.

I have an LED that goes on a band around your head (great for walking around and cooking in the dark), plus a fluro light powered from the bike that I have had since the early 80s (with an extended lead), plus an rechargeable LED worklight with 2 brightness settings for hanging up in the tent (it is also my workshop light when a portable LED is needed).
