UHF and BlueTooth?
« on: August 02, 2012, 07:31:58 PM »
Ok gents, I am curious.

I seem to miss out on a bit with our rides as a lot of you have a UHF an run them through starcom or something similar.

Is there a cost effective UHF version you can do? I have seen hand held,  have seen hard wired, just pondering what the different ways we can set it up

And is there a simple way to Bluetooth it to your headset?

I would appreciate all thoughts  :thumb

Cheers

I would guess that Dale would be ideally placed to answer this question as he is the guru where this stuff is concerned.

I've got a Starcom comms system (original, wired) and it works really well but if I change to the external bluetooth style will my helmet still fit in my pannier.  It's a pretty handy option when I don't have the topbox fitted.

There are a couple of ways to go about it.
I do the BikeComm (http://www.dmme.com.au/BikerCom.htm) at $750 you get 2 headsets PTT, music,GPS and UHF (handheld Icom/GME/Motorola) cables PLUS 2 extra BT connections (Phone and GPS). You want a different UHF - NO Problem I can make the cable  :thumb.

The Sena is very similar but limited in comparison, if you only want 1 headset it may be cheaper (the site linked is down at the mo)

ONE MAJOR THING TO REMEMBER if your on the bike everyday or 2nd charging a headset (and possibley a SR10 too  :wink1) will become very tedious, if your only on every 3 or 4 weeks you'll likely forget to and then wont have a working system SO wired is likely a better choice  :whistle
If you are a one or 2 times a week or every weekend Wired OR Bluetooth (wireless) will be OK.

Personally I run the StarCom1 Digital, Uniden UH-015 (remote head car type UHF), TT Rider GPS (go Garmin if you can  :||||), MP3 and 2 x (bike powered) StarCom Bluetooth modules, ALL Bike powered except the MP3, from the StarCom1 Duigital's switched outlet.
Digital direct to battery - plug in riders headset - everything lights up and I ride away (with a big smile on the dial  :thumbsup) only ever have to charge the MP3 about every 3 or 4 weeks.
The TT rider doesnt work all that well with a phone hence the2 x BTM, one does the GPS the other the phone.

If I had another hour I would go in depth with expalanations.

Maybe over the weekend
I may ride a Ducati, but I've rode lots of (other peoples :-) ) ST's

Hi Neale

I dont carry Uclear so cant say too much, the only feedback I've had from customers wasnt positive, but I dont have much exposure to Uclear.

What I can say is that like ALL Bluetooth headsets they have limited connections AND will ONLY TALK TO THEIR OWN BRAND.

For a simple rider - pillion intercom or 1 bike to 1 other bike, BT headsets are OK. You also get your own music and phone each, nothing shared.
for anything shared R-P BT headsets fail.

Given a set of criteria you want to achieve I can probably p[oint you in the right direction
