ST1100 colours

Can anyone tell me what was the range of colours for the St1100's.

My AnaSTasia name till I think of a different name is a 2000 ex cop, white.

As a result of an old boring story my tank shelter is a different colour very deep dark red. I think its maybe call wineberry.

Since I have owned it I've painted parts in a deep red trying to replicate the colour of the shelter, I'm told motorcycles of this type of colour are candy colours, is this true.

Can some informed advise me what may be the base colours and the layers and actual colours if known .

I may like to experiment.

If you want Honda Candy Glory Red you just go to an automotive paint supplier and tell him to make you a spray can of R101C (Base Coat) and the same in Top Coat.  You will also need a clear lacquer final coat.  Avoiding the "orange peel" finish is the tricky part.

Or you can get a professional to do it for you using their techniques that avoid the dreaded orange peel.

The reds that made it into Australia are:-

R-114C-U   Candy Wineberry Red (1999 and earlier)

R-151C-U   Candy Graceful Red (2000 and later)

So you're going to go to the red colour?  You know its a myth that red bikes are faster!

A word of warning here - I went to my local Autobarn and got an aerosol can ($35) made up of "Mid blue metallic" for my '99 1100 and it was made to their formula for that colour - it was way too dark, so they did another and it was better, but still much too dark.

I have since found a crowd (Inspirations Paint at Nerang) that will do a proper colour match to the existing colour and make an aerosol can ($31) of that colour. (using a Dulux system, I think). I haven't got a can from them yet, but I am confident that their colour will be closer because they will do a proper match, not just work from a formula.

I have also been warned that the clear coat should not be acrylic because it is considered too soft for motorcycles.

Leave the dang thing alone! It's now red and white and both ST.George and the Dragon 1300 couldn't b more impressed.
     


There are quite a few reds out there. My 2003 1300 is very similar to A2Z's 2009's red but slightly lighter. Could b due 2 age difference. Then there r darker wine reds in both ST1300s and ST1100s.

Word of warning ,when you get the paint scanned take a panel that has no marks /scratches as this will affect the colour you get,i know this from past experience.

At Super-Cheap a can of Barossa Red with a clear coat is almost a match for Wineberry, I painted my police light mounts with it and hard to pick.

As suggested by STill dreaming, take a clean panel (probably a pannier would do, or a mirror cowl, or your "shelter", or ...).

They said to allow (up to) an hour to do the match - it depends how busy they are. I was told between 10 minutes and an hour, so be prepared.

I would see it as an excuse to wander down to Lawrence Drive to check out the bikes - only a few minutes away.

Wow what a response

My original shelter was broken (long boring story and not I didn't do it) a new one in the west was $900 and at the time wasn't any 2nd hand in Oz this is a few years ago, stumbled across a brand new one ex UK ( we live in the wrong country for ST spares) cost me $200 including shipping . so when it arrived I just fell in love with colour.

Anyway a bit latter decided to paint the way it is, the closest colour by a chart was an Alfa Romeo colour, came a bit different from the can. Yes picked the colour put into cans. painting over white takes a lot of can, though it would be cheaper.

Any way I used an off the shelf clear coat, yes too soft and not durable already gone dull.Maybe not enough coats maybe

So this time I may use compressor and gravity gun and buy good quality clear.

I will have to use acrylic as don't have proper booth for 2 pack, is there such an animal as hard clear other than 2 pack as I don't think you can spray 2 pack clear over acrylic.

BTW I will remain with 2 tone as I like the red and white just wanted to break up the white, I rode various white bikes for a living once, so wanted to escape the white a bit, would like to match the shelter, I think its a wicked colour and think its a damn shame to paint on a brand shelter.

Thanks Bluey. Lawrence drive is about 1/2Km from my daughters place and I spend a morning checking them all every time I have a spare couple of hours.
Will take the new maintence panel that I replaced last year after my episode on the Putty road.

Nah.  Base coat is red, followed by flecked red followed by automotive clear (which is pretty hard, but not as hard as the factory applied clear).  I suspect the factory paint shops cure the paint with heat.
I think your red looks more like Candy Glory Apple than Wineberry, but CGA is an ST1300 colour, so maybe Candy Graceful.

Seems as though Candy wineberry was available in 2000-01 ST100's

May have to bite the bullet and see if I can get a couple aerosols made up to experiment.

In any event may have to focus on doing my shims timing belt and a few maintenance things.

Think light "Toffee Apple" versus "Red Wine".
"Wineberry" is quite Burgundy rather than being bright red.



The ST on the right is Candy Apple, the one in the middle is Wineberry.

I am convinced my shelter is the same as the middle one, like you say almost burgundy. That's the best photo yet  of the the colour..

I can experiment with my fuel flap that of the old shelter its white, or my mirrors as they are chipped from inferior clear.

A pic in different light sees the colour more true to life.

The light certainly makes a difference, including the angle.  Straight on, you can see the fleck in Candy Glory, at an angle it just appears plain red.
That last pic is certainly more like Wineberry, which can appear even darker in some light.

Yes after seeing the group of bikes definitely Wineberry, pleased really as its the one I prefer outside of a real metallic GOLD.
