Inserting / Embebbing Google Maps?
« on: August 16, 2013, 07:03:40 PM »
Apologies if this is a repeat.

Can we insert or embed a Google Map in a post (similar to some other forums - like http://austouring.com)?

Cheers,  Michael

so far we can post the link to the map like this http://goo.gl/maps/cKyVY

some sites also use the .kml file as well and embed using that.
I think there's a BB code for maps to be embeded but I haven't seen that on here, yet

In the other forum you can wrap [GMAP] ..... [/GMAP] around the HTML code to embed the map into a post.

It's a useful function (IMHO), perhaps it can be added here.  Sounds easy, but I've got no idea how it's done.

Yeah that would a great feature to see the map in the post rather then having to click on another link.

Bump .....

Sure would be handy, so thought I'd just bring to the attention of the-powers-at-be.  Can't be too hard (says the techno duffus).

You mean like this?

to need to wrap the URL in [.html] http://URLgoeshere[./html] but without the fullstop

Looks like this only works with old Google Maps - not the new one.

another test...

Well, there you go - this is from the new google maps....

1. Draw route
2. Go to little settings icon at bottom right of screen
3. click into 'share and embed map'
4. copy text
5. back to ozstoc forum, click 'insert hyperlink' button and paste - click ok
6. add [.html] to front of code and [./html] to end of code (without full stops).

should work

You can't put in multiple destinations with the new Google maps

Sometime last year I tried the new maps and I found I couldn't do what the old maps did so went back to the old ones.

Same... it turns out the smart people at Google fixed it. It also lets you drag you destinations to be n the order you want them...

Nope...Doesn't work

try editing and putting the html stuff in.

Hang on - I will....

there... looks like you can skip the "insert link" step - just paste it in your window, highlight the text, hit the 'revove formatting' icon and add the html codes to each end

*starts swearing* I had all that in [.html][.url]mapURL[./url][./html]

It strips out the code when I modify it

yep - loses the coding each time.         :cuss

I also highlighted the pasted text, and hit the 'remove formatting' icon before adding adding the html into the code - worked fine - but for how long?       :||||
