Alpine Way, Geehi to Khancoban
« on: December 10, 2013, 06:44:33 PM »
Just want to brag about a great weekend around the Snowy Mountains with my newest Gadget. Friday from Millpark (nth suburb of Melbourne) to Khancoban. Saturday ride to Cabramurra, Kiandra, Jindabyne, Thredbo, Geehi and back to Khancoban.  Great road, particularly the Cabramurra Road, but a bit of traffic on the Alpine Way.  Then Sunday to Tumbarumba, via Cabramurra of course.  Then back to Melbourne Monday to arrive back in the rain.

Yeah, you have the vid set to Private, which doesn't work when you're sharing it via public forums.
It has to be set to public

That is an AWESOME piece of road ST13P - VERY hard to keep eyes on the road with such  magnificent valleys and mountainous scenery just to your right.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing ST13P.    I've been lucky enough to have ridden that  road three times, and it must be one of the best rides in Australia.

That is a great bit of road. Luckily it is just a longish dayride for some of us  :grin  or we can just do the great alpine way or the snowy highway...midweek is a better option, but you still have to watch out for locals, campers, tradies etc

I still reckon Tassie has the best roads and not much traffic.

I'll be up that way at the end of Feb. 4th year in a row and still love every second of it.

I just did Canberra-Gundaghai-Tumut-Cooma-home today just to try a 500km day in 32c heat (as you do!)  The road is in good condition, but watch out for the narrow windy section around Blowering Dam as there is loose gravel over the bitumen for 5kms.  It is deliberate, and slippery stuff - you even have to stick to the 60km speed limit... The slippery bit satrs 100m before the warning sign, as cars and trucks mut have dragged gravel down the road.  I was too busy correcting a rear wheel slide to see if the traction control did the work or me.

Just south of Cooma there is road resurfacing going on just out of town before the Tumut turnoff.  Delays will probably be over before the weekend.
