How do I connect GME 3500 to Sena SR10?

Ahhhhh technology
once again i find myself on my knees praying to the gods for guidance

patch lead constructed (thank you lord)
radio installed
all the little wirey things connected up
bluetooth hub paired to the helmets headset
now for the test using a 40ch handheld to prove just how clever i am

transmitting from the hand held on ch 26 i can hear myself talk through the helmet
thats a good start - the quality isnt fantastic but i least now i know how terrible my voice sounds
transmitting from the helmet I expect to hear those dulcet tones through the handheld
NOTHING
key the PTT button and check the bike radio - yep its registering a TX signal
check the hand held - yep its registering a carrier
NO VOICE
tried it on the trucks radio same thing
so obviously the system works
now at this point in time i could read the instructions - but that would be un-Australian

Im obviously doing something wrong
ANY IDEAS WHAT ???

is there a band width discrepancy between 40 and 80 ch radios
or am i just a technology numpty

As you have probably worked out you are getting no audio from the microphone to the Radio. As i understand there is two steps for the audio. Bluetooth from helmet to SR10 and wire from SR10 to radio. If you bluetooth your phone to the SR10 and make a call it will test the bluetooth part, if you can make a goog phonecall the problem is in your wiring most probably.

There may also be a configuration problem with the SR10, but ive never read a manual for it..

On mine you can't hear the radio through the cb speaker, only through the helmet while the patch lead is connected. You should be able to hear the transmit on another cb, and any incoming through the headst

the 80 ch GME back to a 40 ch handheld will be (as Elmer Fud says when hunting wabbits) VEWY VEWY quiet.

on the 40 ch you'll need volume at near max to hear yourself come back 

its all due to bandwidth and modulation

Blackduck do a quick check to confirm your Mic is working.......make a phone call, if they cannot here you check the mic connection into the Sena ? You may have inadvertently unplugged when putting your helment on if the Mic to Sena connection is not in a bullet proof location in your lid

I have an old lead old style with a seperate speaker lead from the aux speaker jack. I know this works so it would be a simple check to connect this. I need a ride so I can bring it to you as I am going to Baldivis this week.

im about to go outside and put my limmited knowledge to work with multimeter in hand
a quick check accross the terminals should confirm if Brians god like status has to be revoked
if i get full continuity on all leads then its over to the gods again

I just love it when electronics types start talking dirty

Ill check brians wiring first then move on to the more difficult
The KISS method has always worked for me in the past
BTW do you still do those PTT buttons that tuck in between the grip and switch unit, and do they connect up to the senna PTT outlet on the SR10
the strap to the bars unit with the senna leaves alot to be desired

just put the meter across the RJ45 plug and the senna plag
resistance all over the place
mind you that could be because i operate with sausage fingers (thats why im a mechanical engineer not electrical)
when i plug the uniden mic into the radio and transmit i get reception on the handheld so the radio works

so i got in and had another play with it tonight and same thing
next step was to disconnect all the leads and have another go putting them all back in
nothing
so i disconnected the bikes power supply to the sena
it worked 
connected the power up again and the radio was telling me lo power

Flat battery

obviously its better to run the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning while playing with this than hope the st battery lasts more than 20 mins

I think its god telling me ive wasted my money

I have heard of the usb power lead causing problems before, I dont have mine powered from the bike, I just use the internal batteries. It runs for ages, so you could just have it charging when parked.

I will try running from power and see what happens, if there is a problem, then Sena should be made aware...

My hub is bike powered and no issues as long as you use the Sena supplied USB lead (other leads will not power on the hub).  One hub (Lionel's) did have some consistency problems with powering on and connecting up, so I swapped mine for his before the Transcontinental ride, restored the firmware and it has powered on and connected up properly ever since.

I am just using standard USB cable on mine and swap between it and phone and never had a problem regardless of power state.

Your not running it through a "fuseblock"?? of any sort are you??

I've had occasion where the fuseblock internal electronics have upset UHF radio's before.

I tried the sena supplied usb power lead but it didnt sit nicely in my USB adapter so i switched to the ciggy plug that came with the unit
as far as power supply goes i run a common bus line through a fused solenoid triggered from the ignition via a handlebar mounted switch block so fuse yes / block no
now ive put some jibbers back in the battery ill have another go
its just a matter of trial and error
ive tried the instructions and failed so now its good old fashioned make it us as you go alongness
what could go wrong

Bill I got the patch lead sorted thanks all the same
ive got an overnighter to pemberton this weekend so if it doesnt play on bike power ill take brocks lead and just run it off its own battery

Thanks to brian, dale, brock, bill and all the sound advice on what should be an easy install
i figure we'll either sort it or it will drive me nuts
