Teela & Streak go a FarRiding!
« on: June 02, 2015, 11:00:48 AM »
We have had a fantastic adventure with some bumps and turns in it! 2,230km of twists, turns and straight roads, culminated in Teela achieving her FarRider pillion number.

Here is our story…

We didn’t quite have the ideal preparation to the FarRide with both of us having a very busy morning with work, and running about.

I am paranoid about start dockets (for obvious reasons), so after asking the BP service station attendant for the time on her machine as my clock said 12, turned out to be 11.58am on hers which would have created many dramas at the other end!

Our first stint was a 200km jump to Miles as we had been busy and had not eaten anything all so it was quick food and caffeine, The Creek Café is an awesome little spot if anyone is heading west!

Everything was travelling wonderfully, Teela was comfortable thanks to the loaner sergeant seat from Wild Rose, making good time, just tipped out of a corner, having fun looked down, woop going a bit quick, look up oh look a speedo check, oh look well it is accurate at a 127km per hour, and it only cost me $227 to sort it out!

After the very nice men said goodbye, and my wife explained to me how it was not nice to spend that kind of money we got back on the road, and hit Taroom for fuel, the sun was dropping pretty rapidly at this point, so it was going to be good to test out my new lights.

Banana it was with 500km down and 6.30pm we caught up with Captain Thunderbolt and another FarRider going to Rockhampton, drink of water, visor and lights clean and away we go.

Ok at this point I had done everything right, but I MAY have followed google and went left instead of right, and ended up on a smaller sealed road that MAY have had some rough cattle grids, that MAY have involved a mirror cover coming off and ending up in a paddock….but Teela was very good at finding it!

But it was all in good fun and experience and we were happy to complete the 700km, we got into Blackwater about 9pm, where my brother in law and I did some running repairs, got the blinker working again, and put a new zip tie on the cover so it could not come off.

After a brilliant home cooked lasagne it was to bed, and up at 4.30am to make Eungella chalet by 11.30am, The Fog was something to behold, and we were lucky we left early as we got down to 60km/H in some parts.

After a little break on the side of the Road, it was breakfast in Nebo and we got to See Clint and Sharlene from FR and of course Saaz!

The last 200km was just fantastic, the roads through the valley and up the mountain with the view thrown is was just amazing, ride up there just for this!

The Metal grates at the top of the mountain where a little interesting for a fully loaded 2UP ST1300 but in the end we rolled into the Shalet about 11.25am 1148km completed, and was greeted by a great crowd!

It was time for Check in, and as Clint always does now, he always looks closer at my start dockets, and we were done! And Teela had completed her first FarRide.

The view was worth the ride alone, Teela and I just stood there admiring it, it was just sensational…

Even the View from our cabin was fantastic!

We had an easy day after all was said and done, everyone headed off home, and left those of us who were staying (6 of us in total), we had a nap in the afternoon as beers and 4.30am caught up with us.

We went and explored the walking tracks which were very cool!

It was dinner and bed after many laughs with Saaz, Lionel and co.

Packed up and gone first thing, for a ride through the cane fields for Breakfast in Sarina on the water, which was rather awesome

We even found ourselves a cane toad!

It was a leisurely afternoon on the Bruce Hwy to Tannum Sands and that was Sunday done

The Discovery Park here is Awesome! $99 for a unit that was very new and comfy, throw in the local hotel runs a courtesy bus from 5pm till late, we were set for dinner as well.

And then it was Monday morning, the 1st of June, I woke up and realised I was 38 years young, all I wanted was a coffee and watch the waves crash, unfortunately nothing was open so instead we just stood on the beach and took in the sunrise and the surrounds

It was a steady 500km home from Tannum sands to Toowoomba, and not a lot happened that was exciting, apart from getting to Nanango and the temperature dropping by 20 degrees!

So from Friday Lunch to Monday Lunch (3 days) we completed 2,229km, had the most amazing time, didn’t eat too much bad food, saw some fantastic people and places, and well when do we get to go again??

Come along and see Teela on her Purple FarBike!  A number is good, but a Rider number is gooder!    :grin

Great to see you guys there.  And nice to read about the holiday on the way home.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Gr8 comprehensive RR Streak and congrats Teela on your pillion in a million effort of hanging in there with tru grit thru thick (fog) and thin (hunger).
Photos r top notch as well.  :clap
Does Teela have ambitions 2 ride solo on one of these far rides or does snuggliness and camaraderie of two-up long-distance riding "override" that question? BTW, no need 2 respond 2 this question - it's rhetorical.
