As a matter interest and related to candywine's query here :- http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=5917.msg66726#msg66726 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=5917.msg66726#msg66726)
Has anyone during their riding career ever had their Helmet checked for compliance during any traffic stop, RBT etc.?
I for one in 35 years have never had my helmet checked in the states that I have ridden in. It seemed to me that wearing a helmet was enough to satisfy any officer I have dealt with.

Never, but I understand it may have been done in SA as part of full checks on OMC members and their bikes, following some misbehaviour on their part.

No, So long as it has that compliance sticker, it's good to go IMO.
that is, unless you buy a helmet second hand, the store you bought it from should only stock compliant helmets for the state that the store is located

Winston 66,
I think that all of the proceeding about Legal Motorcycle helmets just proves the old maxim as someone said I forget who it was , that.
THE LAW IS AN ASS.
All I know is that all of my helmets carry the sticker , D.O.T. Approved
That is good enough for me.
Can you imagine the minefield if all of the helmet retailers could only stock and sell these non exhistant and so called legal and compliant helmets. and all of the legal argy bargy that would ensue if someone was hurt and that person were to sue the helmet retailer for supplying and selling them a non compliant helmet and got a couple of million dollars from the retailers insurance company.
I woner about it all, but I don't loose any sleep.
