Title: Sena SR10
Post by: Gadget on June 22, 2015, 07:17:28 PM
Yesterday I mounted my new Sena SR10. Paired up the helmet, paired up the phone.

I have an Aldi Bluetooth in the helmet and I can get the phone to work, but not the media player in the phone to come through the helmet. This means the GPS in the phone won't come through either. Phone calls work OK though.

The CB is working fine but if I connect the charger as well I get alternator whine through the helmet. (I know they warn about that in the manual) this I can live with, I'll just recharge as necessary.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get media from a phone (samsung s5) to connect via the Sena SR10b with an Aldi Bluetooth?

To reduce the alternator whine, you need to feed the power leads through a toroid core (http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/1403145501/46mm-x-23mm-x-15mm-Inducator-Part-Yellow-White-Ferrite-Toroid-Core.jpg)

Feed pos and neg wires through the hole and wind as many turns on as you can. Wind the neg on one side, and pos on the other. This will help cut down the whine a lot. I couldnt get my phone to work properly with the SR10, but paired it to my SMH10 instead. It can be a bit of a drama to get it paired in the right way. No experience with Aldi stuff, as we dont have them in the west.

I will see if I have a core, and put some windings on for a pic so you can see what I mean about the windings. Its all to do with opposing magnetic fields in the winding.

No need Brock. Very familiar with Toroids. Thanks for the idea.

SR10 will need to be hard wired to the phone which is easy enough, but it won't be in stereo.

STroppy has an Aldi headset, don't know if he has played with it much as he also has a SMH10 and SMH20 which are more flexible.

I have a similar problem with my Scala headset. I did some research online and suspect it is because the android phone sees the headset as mono not stereo, so therefore wont connect any potentially stereo apps to it. i can get the phone to connect but not google maps?.

That might explain why it works if I plug in the headphone socket to the SR10, I get the media player to work. I haven't tried maps that way yet.

ALL of the problems above are easily solved, if you contact the supplier you purchased from they should be able to advise a fix straight away over the phone or email IF they know their product  :wink1

Might be a touch ambitious expectation from ALDI...

I have 2 of the Aldi Bluetooth Headsets and used them briefly connected to my phone and a GPS . . no problems except they didn't have a way to connect my earmold plugs and I could not hear music or GPS clearly enough above 80ish KPH. I did think of tapping into the wiring but decided that the wires were way too fine for this little black duck to do it with success . . . Dale may have the skill and equipment to do it.

So I have 2 Aldi Bluetooth Headsets to give away if anyone is interested . . They could be usefull for a pillion helmet to chat as one slowed down to go thru towns etc . .

I could take them to Gulargambone if anyone going there is interested?

I decided to sort this problem out with my phone and headset. The phone is a Samsung galaxy note 2 and the headset is an old Cardo Scala Q2. I've found that the quality and range of the headset to be very good so I would prefer not to part with it.
The problem would appear to be that my headset does not support bluetooth S2DP which is what all modern headsets and android versions require to provide the various sound channels that users want. The solution was a free app called "BTmono" which will channel most sounds through the phone voice channel hence enabling me to use the sound in google maps and others as well as play music should I choose too. I've yet to fully test this configuration but it might help others to make some progress.

Nice find. I'm going to try mono bluetooth, which doesn't have popup ads.

Sena just raised the bar several notches with a new bluetooth camera integrated with comms, and a new handlebar bluetooth controller, plus three helmet brand specific models!       :thumbs

I do like the look of the 10U. And a model for my helmet. :runyay

The combined camera and bluetooth looks too bulky.

I don't think combining a comms system and a camera is a particularly good idea. It limits you in what you can do and necessitates carrying around that huge lump all the time. Just my 2c worth

The main problem is battery life.

If you use the camera, intercom operating time drops to mere hours.

Now using an Interphone F5MC with the a Sena SR10.

The Samsung S5 now pairs direct to the F5MC.

Can anybody help with a bit of advice (Brock) I have a typical hum in the UHF so I have now got a toroid core. The question is where is the best position for the core? closest to the radio, before or after the inline fuse or it does not matter. Help please

Cheers all  :grin

I prefer to put it close to the radio as practical, ( Mine is under the dash. ) that way it rejects any noise picked up on the way from the battery

Thanks Brock
I will try and compare. It may still be the radio itself

Wombat is your antenna coax the normal 4.5ish metre length and either ran throughout the bike or elongated into a bundle......never coil or cut off your excess coax, the former can often bring in spurious engine noise.

My TAFE teacher when I did my radio tech's trade would be proud I remembered that  :crackup

My coax was made to length by me o:) o:)

In all my years of playing with radios ( aircraft and CB) I have never had excess coax. As long as the connections were done properly there shouldnt be a problem.

An old furphy from the 27meg days, was that coax had to be in 9' multiples (1/4 wave length). If that were true, what length of coax would you nedd for a radio that could operate from 3-30 MegHz???

Most antenna bases you buy in the shops, have the length to allow mounting of the radio and antenna just about anywhere.

My coax is to length running opposite side to electrics I think. I have wired the toroid coil in last night but need to test it. Either that or the radio parts are breaking down like me :grin

Thanks for hints
