Title: Installing Handle Bar Risers on an Honda ST1100
Post by: Streak on May 07, 2012, 06:19:35 PM
Thanks to Pault, he has lent me some Handlebar risers to trial on the bike, so i decided to put them on today.

Was quiet easy actually, firstly you have to remove the plastic around the bars which is 4 plastic grubs

2 screws under the bars

1 on top of the plastic (behind the key), i just realised i missed taking a photo of it.

and then it is a matter of unbolting the bars, putting the risers in, setting the bars to comfy and tightening the bars up, you may have to shift the brake line, but mine still had enough play that I didn't have to

i was able to fit the plastic back on, it is slightly offset where the key goes in, i am going to tack the rubber insert that goes in there if i like the risers, but the job took me a whole 30 mins start to finish!

I have to say just running around town the bar risers have certainly made my seating position heaps better, should have dne it ages ago! Am looking forward to the weekend so I can get a proper feel of how it has changed with some distance behind me

Nice one, must say that the risers look to be the same size as the top clamps, which is what i used for mine.  I found a big difference on the long runs with this mod, I am sure you will like it  :thumbs

Well I did 220km with the new risers, they have made a fantastic difference, have made me rethink the highway wings for the moment.

I only put in 1" risers and it has made all the difference, no more sore shoulder for me!

Did the same.....nice addition to the dash is to use a 35mm film canister with the bottom cut out to fill the 1" gap in the ignition hole, helps to keep the factory look.

Cheers

Is there a particular reason you have installed the risers such that the bars are further away from standard when seated? The ebay pictures suggested the offset should be closer to the rider.

it kinda looks better this way and they are a higher spot. i think its also to do with the angle of the mounts and they are closer to the top cover. i am keen to test it but have had a bit of rain. it looks like if i do reverse them they will be lower and closer to the cover but i am going to try both ways but this way kind felt better so far.
i also just noticed these are a kinda offset type but the others in this thread are not offset. they definitely do rise them up it feels less pulling me in a downward direction from the original spot

you got me thinking so i quickly swapped over the other option. these are good in a way option 1 is to raise them option 2 is to bring closer to rider. i will see how the closer to rider goes first ride with them. see if i like that over to the higher position

If you find that you still need more comfort, I have a set of Helibars complete kit that you can have for $800 + freight brand new that I bought and never fitted before I changed ST1100 to Goldwing. They cost me close to $1000.

Just no need for them now

Also other parts for ST1100 etc.

Hey there,

Just after a bit of a review of the risers you fitted? Was keen to find a post with some recency as most of them are years old!

Cheers, Andrew.

Reviving a very old thread, I bought the 22mm risers as discussed, simple job to fit, looking forward to testing the new handlebar position on a longer ride. ..however...there didn't seem any way to fit the covers back on without stress and also, position the ignition in a place that I could realistically get the key to fit. I decided to leave the covers off...
Maybe I've done something odd but any advice or photo appreciated.
Cheers
Chris

You have done nothing odd, the standard cover will no longer fit. The police model cover may work as they came with raised bars.

Did a couple of days riding after Christmas and the risers were excellent...

Ok so it looks like locating a set of the taller handlebar covers for my bike with the new risers is not going to be easy so I've added a cover to the steering tube. I've also added the quadlock mount which is a brilliant bit of gear.
Too bloody hot to ride at the moment however...

Mine's an ex police - 2002 - and no stock bar risers it would seem or special cover to suit , alas when I put risers on I chopped off the top of the cover to allow access to the key. Exposes the triple tree and gives it a bit of more a motorbike look too I thought.

I've just added bar risers to 2000 ex police, and the bar holding the side covers fouls on the risers. Going to have to do some revision of bar position!
