Title: The STeed you have, when you can no longer have a STeed.
Post by: Gadget on September 27, 2019, 07:50:22 AM
For many and varied reasons, some of us can't ride the beloved ST anymore, so here is a place we can showcase the next STeed we chosen. Or for those lucky ones, who have more than one STeed.

For Shonny and I, it is a 2015 Can-am Spyder, RT Special Edition

I replaced my ST1100 with a 1988 Goldwing, so I could still do 1000+km in a day and be able to walk afterwards, but still am hesitant with the weight when maneuvering. I recently had MRI which basically told me my my upper and lower discs have severely worn and are touching Sciatic nerves, and the condition is degenerative, So am considering the Spyder path, especially so wife will feel secure and actually ride as pillion. She doesn't like bikes as is.

I have considered the earlier Twin models due to price, but I am 6'1 87kg and wife is 5'4 and >kg. I am looking at RTS models for touring capacity, and it has to be comfortable for my spine, (armchair position).

I also will do as much of the mechanicals as I can to save costs, if my back allows it.

I have done as much online research as I can, but i need members feedback.

I know that the 990 use more fuel and rev higher, but is the 1340 that much more powerful or better?

Please any and all advice accepted, and welcome.

Hi Cressida,

The RT special edition or Limited models also have on the fly adjustable air bag suspension, which makes them more comfortable.

The 1330 triple mirror is brilliant.

A mate has the 990 V twin and a 1330. He has had a lot of problems with the 990, and rarely rides it any more.

Also, I have the SE5 transmission and I love it. It is finger tip changes in the way up, and either auto on the way down, or if left to is own devices, will change down needed.

It can changes gears faster than I ever could manually and is always in the correct gear as you show down.

The OEM back rest is absolutely with getting its not included.

And the genuine reverse gear is the best.
