Repainting my white top box?
« on: December 06, 2013, 12:00:50 PM »
All,

The white paint on my top box has been scraped off in patches (probably dropped in the past) and I can tell that it's been touched up in the past but I'm keen to respray the entire white area.
I've not sprayed plastics in over 20 years and even back then it was a hit and miss affair.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to do this myself on the cheap?
Or would you suggest I take the top box in to a pro and get it done.

Additionally we could use some more posts on painting :D

Cheers,

George.

Hey George,
I gave mine to daughter's friend's dad who is a spray painter at a panel beater along with the fuel flap.
he matched colour perfectly and said it was an easy job.

I'll "third" that.  Any spray painting I've done on bikes always has "orange peel" finish, not high gloss.  It doesn't matter how light a coat I apply etc etc.

So if you're happy with amateurish, you DIY.

Wise move to find a professional.  There's a wide range of charges.  I was quoted $400 for a pannier and mirror, which seems ridiculous to me.  I paid $67 for three cans necessary for Candy Glory Red, and got my orange-peel effect without even trying.

For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
