That being the case, and as Helen and I will be touring with a two other couples, and because we want to be all in the same accommodation complex, I just booked for six at a nearby B&B.
Official announcement of the 2019 NatRally is only 48 hour old, and I count at least 11 booked in some shape or form.
Someone will be along soon to announce their booking, I'll try and keep up.

I'll be making a call tomorrow to Moonba Holiday & Caravan Park after discussing dates with Wendy tonight, then I book the ferry with a cabin o/n as soon as possible. I've decided to NOT bring the coffin to Tasmania again as I have relo's for any extended trip I do before or after the rally.

Well Phil NONE as they all offer their own views from different vantage points. :eek Only Hobart can offer those views.

Certainly is spectacular.
But last time we were atop of Mount Wellington, we didn't have those views - there was just way too much low cloud.

HEY organizers. will there be a deal with the spirit of tas?

I don't know if that has been looked into for OzSTOC members and / or friends.
Personally, I'm not sure that it is worth the effort, here is a link to the Spirit of Tasmania group booking fare conditions: https://www.spiritoftasmania.com.au/media/712785/groups-booking-fare-conditions-as-7october2013.pdf (https://www.spiritoftasmania.com.au/media/712785/groups-booking-fare-conditions-as-7october2013.pdf)
I was part of a large group of Ulyssians thinking about a group booking to go to the AGM at Ulverstone, more than a few years ago now. The requirement was for at least 15 people to book to comply and significant up front payment.
This required at least 15 to agree on the same sailing "to" and "from" Tasmania times and dates, and was never gunna happen with the group that I was involved with at the time. I suspect this will be the case with our OzSTOC group.
Having said that, there will be three of us sailing to Devonport on the Saturday or Sunday before the NatRally, and then five returning on the Saturday or Sunday after the rally. If you wanna attach yourself to our little group, you are welcome and then we only need another 11 to qualify for a group booking.

Good! Get Dan over the line and then only 10 more.
If you go to Reply #12 above, so far we only have 15 indicated as attending the NatRally, and that includes three (at least) who will be flying over.

The ferry people make a motza and have a captive market. Without competition, they keep printing money. They get a gummint subsidy and ostensibly pocket it, because their fares are outrageous. PC and Marion paid $2000 to take a caravan over and back. With a senior's discount I paid $435 return for the bike and a cabin shared with one other. It's cheaper if you can sleep on one of their recliners. Some can. I can't.
-
I took the recliner option last year and ended up on the floor by midnight (along with many others).

Or cheaper for day sailings. Haven't tried that, but it could be worthwhile.
Recliners, tried that 45 years (was it the POT then?), okay as a 20 year old, then on the Spirit in 2011, never again.
I took the recliner option last year and ended up on the floor by midnight (along with many others).
Yep! Never again.
-
How much cheaper are the day sailings? I never bothered to look as to me it is a waste of day that could be used riding. Plus the fact I got sick on a ferry from Kagoshima to Naha I hope to crash into bed before the boat gets out of Philip Bay.

No cheaper than a recliner ('cause there's not cost of a recliner), but around $35 to $40 cheaper than a four share cabin.
One way of looking at it is that it is no waste of time, it's just a matter of sleeping on the boat (ship?) or sleeping in a hotel room (as a higher cost), either way get off the boat early AM, or leave the pub early AM, and start riding.

Exactly right. And those who have done the daylight crossing say it's tedious. Unless you play the pokies or Playstation there's nothing to do and the scenery is a tad repetitive. A cabin share with one other person adds $80 each way. The cabins have a tiny ensuite and desk plus a window.
-
There are no day ferries in the week before so that option is out.
(The prices listed are for 2 people and one bike)

But there are day sailings on the Saturday before and after. I might give it a go, depends what the others think. I'll look at it as saving a few $$$ to put towards a few more beers.

Prices are for one passenger and one motorcycle.
Helen will be flying over for a long, long, long weekend (Friday to Tuesday), because I won't go on that boat, not sure yet of costs to fly into Devonport or Launceston, and out of Hobart.

How long are OzSTOCers staying after Sunday 17th Nov? I've ridden around a fair bit of Tassie on several occasions so don't really need to go wandering much apart from the Rally rides. I haven't booked yet, but planning on departing Melbourne on Thursday 14th.

There's three of us planning to head over on Saturday 9 or Sunday 10, then ride & ride, Port Sorell from Friday 15 to Sunday 17, then ride & ride, head home (VIC) on Saturday 23 or Sunday 24.

Thanks- that's the sort of input I'm looking for. It seems daft to pay a fortune to go all the way over just to come straight back. But Mrs Biggles isn't coming on this one so that adds another consideration.

Put me down as a HUGE TENTATIVE
The wife has given me the go ahead for the trip, but there is one stumbling block to overcome around mid April to May. I do NSW HSC marking, and need to see about the examination dates to workout if I'll be finished by the 14th, which would be my departure date. In the meantime, I will be making plans as if everything is proceeding as normal.

Evening everyone,
Some important facts for you to all consider for this years National Rally.
And I need to be some what blunt, so apologies in advance....but you will see where this is leading, so stay with me.
We have 29 people booked for NatRally 2019 in Tassie so far :runyay Awesome and keep the registrations coming.
Camp Banksia was selected by the Tasmanian Rally Team as offering, in their opinion, the best possible mix of facilities and accomodation. This facility has reserved not only all its accomodation for OzSTOC members but also providing its common area’s and all site facilities for our communal gatherings.....I.e Meet & Greet etc.
And here is the stinger......of the 29 members registered as attending NatRally only 9 have committed to accomodation at Camp Banksia.
Now before you flame me..... I completely understand that people wish varied styles of accomodation and are paying for their preferred choice, but here we have a facility who is opening their business to paying customers and the vast majority are staying off site but will wish to be with the group for gatherings etc.
So to say this business is concerned needs to be stated, how would you feel as a business if only potentially a third of the people you are providing services to are paying customers ??
So to this end could I ask that members who are still to register PLEASE seriously consider using Camp Banksia for your accomodation.
A few of the meals will be at Camp Banksia for all attendees, but I fear this may not be enough to keep us in their good graces.
Needless to say some take home lessons about member accomodation requirements have been gathered.
Thanks everyone for your consideration.

When I rang to book, all they had left was communal bunk sleeping with shared bathroom, I get what you're saying but my wife, and let's face it, me as well, don't find that exceptable, no offence intended, so we booked a cabin across the road

**** IMPORTANT INFORMATION ****
If you haven't completed the Meal request (ATTACHED BELOW) for Camp Banksia could you please complete and forward to Camp Banksia.
This includes members staying Off-Site but participating in meals please.
Please consider the linen request ;-*
thank you
Chris
-
Have you posted this somewhere before, as this is the first time I'm reading about the meal PDF?
So everybody registered will need to fill this in and hand over your credit card details.
That is, download it, print it out, fill it in, and then either scan it back onto the computer and email it to Camp Banksia?
So if you don't have a printer or adobe acrobat to fill it in on your computer then you need to go down to the library and print it out there, fill it in and scan it back in to email it, or mail it to them???
you're making this process tough for some members.
Can't we just pay them once we get there?
-
I knew about it. I got one emailed to me, printed it off, filled it in, posted it by snail mail and got a confirmation that they recieved it email on december 14th last year.
-
Have you posted this somewhere before, as this is the first time I'm reading about the meal PDF?
No I haven't, this has just been forwarded to me by the Tassie Rally team to post. This form is sent by Camp Banksia to those whom have registered with them.
So everybody registered will need to fill this in and hand over your credit card details.
If you are dining with the group Yes ! CB requires information for planning meals and staff and payment (you may elect to contact them for other payment methods)
That is, download it, print it out, fill it in, and then either scan it back onto the computer and email it to Camp Banksia?
Yep, that's what I did.
So if you don't have a printer or adobe acrobat to fill it in on your computer then you need to go down to the library and print it out there, fill it in and scan it back in to email it, or mail it to them???
Or they could ask for assistance, happy to work a solution for those who ask ;-*

Thanks everyone for doing this promptly as Camp Banksia are having a few conniptions about saving the park for OZSTOC on the basis of only a few registered Members with menu requests. Tomorrow is a kind of D Day for us to show the park the same kind of support they are showing us.
So please get in board now if you are thinking if joining the Tassie Rally dinner and presentations at Camp Banksia. Cheers

I put our paperwork through last week and Camp Banksia were very good & very helpful. After confirming there were no cabins or other more private sleeping accommodation I explained we weren't top bunk people (gave that game up at least 20 years ago) and we'd pay for 2 sets of bunk beds if necessary. Sonia advised that provided there wasn't a huge demand for beds we'd be ok otherwise we'd have to pay for the top bunks as well. It's a gamble I'm happy to take to stay at the main venue.
Cheers ... Mark.

Completed form for all meals sent.
If all of us having meals at Camp Banksia will help to keep it available for the rally may I suggest that as there are several threads about Camp Banksia all those registered should be immediately contacted by phone to ensure they are aware of the meal booking situation.
I would be happy to do this if I am supplied with names and numbers.

Alrightie good people,
1. I have deposited half the payment at Camp Banksia - Heavy snorer here, they have been advised and we'll see how that gets organised.
2. I have paid for the breakfasts and Saturday dinner.
3. Bass Strait crossing all paid up. I paid for a 4 berth inside cabin leaving Melbourne Thursday night, 14/7 and leaving Davenport Sunday night 17/7. I am happy to share the cabin.
I am planning to leave Sydney Thursday morning between 3am and 4am and travelling straight down the highway. Are there any riding partners?
All that's left to do is services and new steering bearings in the September school holidays.
We are farkled up and rearing to go

The last run I did to Melbourne I made it an Ironbutt SS1600 Brisbane to Seymour for an overnight the day before boarding which gave me wriggle room to make the vital check-in time on Thursday 14th. Any other crazies want to join me? It could be your first IBA ride, if you want to get that under your belt.
We could make it Euroa if you wanted to just do the minimum (1635 vs 1713km, both via west Sydney). Inland is more direct, but there have been too many roo strikes out west for my liking, and the time is the same.

we have just confirmed leave and bookings, off site. We want to attend the dinner. Any idea how to make this happen, :think1 without staying on site. I know I am late but work doesnt care about approving anything too far in advance, :cuss

Had a couple of VIC members ask what they get for the Saturday evening dinner for $30. We generally agreed that two courses would not be sausage and bread, but all the same, some people like to know.
I couldn't find any details anywhere. if they / me only had a "man" look, could someone post a link, please?

Ruben,
I've been working too hard and decided my riding has been neglected so on the market for another ST1300 and will be riding to Tasmania. I'm up to travel that way with you if thats OK?
-
Nathan,
Huge yeah. You and I have a similar riding style so it would be good company. Perhaps we can get together beforehand and discuss our preparations.
Will you be going to Rylstone on the 14th of September? Perhaps we can do an RTE this month. How does "Mountain High Pies" sound? Or, I found this nice place called "Chorizo Chasers" at Wetherill Park that makes awesome sausages in a roll.

This is particularly relevant for a number of non-OzSTOCers (eight in all) touring Tassie with me on the weeks before and after the Rally. We have booked a B&B just down the road from Camp Banksia and they are interested in attending the Saturday evening dinner but need to know:
1. Are they welcome?
2. What meal choices are there.
Re. Q1, I have had a non-OzSTOC guests on previous occasions, Mrs Williamson at Ballarat (but wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, etc. can be / are expected), Derek at Towoomba and Phil at Wooli. But I'm not sure if eight friends is okay or in the spirit of OzSTOC.

My friend, I would suggest not bringing the girlfriend and wife at the same time, could get rather awkward, after all, they'd be fighting to get on the back of the STeed. :Chocies

Friends are very welcome at ALL OzSTOC gatherings....naturally they will need to expect the usual banter when its discovered they ride a KawSuzYamHarley Ferguson ;-*
Thanks Chris, your answer is what I expected. But I didn't want to assume, especially when eight people are involved.
I will endeavour to obtain some meal info from the Tassie team
:thumbs
Naturally they could also register and receive rally packs and wear the OzSTOC rally shirt proudly....
The more rally pack contents I order the higher the chances on negotiating a better deal ;-*

If anyone is interested in a Post Rally Run, I'm going down to the Gordon Dam on Monday and overnighting that night at the National Park Hotel ($70 for a single room). On Tuesday I'm heading back up to the north coast in preparation for boarding Wednesday night. Diesel has suggested it is easily doable with a day to get down and a day to get back to Devonport. He suggests going through Poatina, Bothwell, Hamilton, Westaway there, and Queenstown, Roseberry, Wynyard, Burnie back. All the great roads. I've booked into accomm in Wynyard for Tuesday night leaving a leisurely day getting to Devonport. He said there's accomm at Strathgordon, but the only show I could see there wanted $149 for the night in a basic room. The pub sounds nicer at half the price.

Had a good mate that had a 3 bedroom holiday house at Maydena (similar to the one in the link), stayed a couple of times at mates rates. Bugger went and sold it. Now he's just a mate.

How rude!!!

..... the National Park Hotel .....
Whilst in the area Bill, don't forget to get a pic on the Township sign, a confirm my selection in this thread.
Yeah Williamson- on yer bike and go find a town or suburb starting with N. :-((( :grin
"Any Town" is kinda funny since you Photoshopped a sign to get it.
I deduce from all the foregoing it's OK to reuse town signs in further "solutions". So I should be out there collecting the alphabet with a few common doubled letters.
Re. the ride, a big day on the bike, but as a Far Rider, you'll be quite capable. Me? Probably not so. Last ride to and from Lake Gordon dam wall was from Maydena. With pics stops (plenty) and afternoon tea at the Wilderness Lodge (good coffee, but that was 2014), it was a full day.

Done the meals mate, but got a knock back on the Moomba Park accommodation. Apparently, Bookings.com sold me a room that was no longer available. I’ve now got a campsite booked at Camp Banksia. I’ll stay in my tent. All good!

Never looked into availability of bunks Terry.
Happy with the tent option. :hatwave

Ditto on the check in, By the way, undecided if you're off to the norty corner. "CAST TO THE BOONIES?" That Sir, is preposterous. :angry-old-man-smiley-emoticon

:think1 Not sure if there is any room left in the norty corner :fp

Did we ever find out what the meal choices for Friday and Saturday night were?
........ What meal choices are there?
I will endeavour to obtain some meal info from the Tassie team.
I have eight potential Saturday evening meal bookings pending, just need to have an idea what's on offer, some won't commit at this stage.
-
Umm :whistle Are'nt you on the rally committee? - I thought the committee would know the menu and let us all know ;-*
-
I'll try and publish a menu for everyone shortly, but remember, it's a camp - not a restaurant. There'll be a selection of roast meats and vegies, plus another few options. Stay tuned.

-
Outstanding effort WAG.
I am departing Brisbane around the 17th for Canberra Ballarat Perth Geralton then back to Mudborne for a Nov 9 ferry providing I am physically able and or the Beemer doesn't throw a wobbly.
-
Stage 2 was to ride the sidecar to Tassie via the Spirit of Tasmania and then fly home.
Shortly after leaving home I met up with Mitch who rode with me to Norseman. We saw a CTX 1300 refeuling at one petrol stop.
Sunday saw Mitch heading for home and me to Eucla,
Monday on to Wudinna then Victor Harbor Tuesday to overnight with friends Steve and Christine
Wednesday headed for Steve's 1,000 acres at the back of Tintinara about 2 hrs east of Victor Harbor.
Here I helped Steve and his mate Pete prepare for the 140th birthday party (both Steve and Pete turning 70 this year).
By late Saturday afternoon we had been joined by about 35 caravans, about 100 people and numerous dogs ready for that nights birthday celebrations.
Sunday morning after bacon, eggs and pancakes I headed for Horsham. The first 6 kms being dirt I was happy to see just the odd puddle remaining from 13 mm of rain on the Friday night. In Horsham I had coffee with two mates from the group I rode R66 with several years ago then onto Creswick for the night. Monday morning catch up with a friend in Creswick then head to Port Melbourne to catch the nights ferry. There was another CTX 1300 catching the ferry.
Tuesday rode to my cousins near Geeveston and but the sidecar to bed where it will be stored until Theresa and I fly to Hobart the Friday of the rally.

Sounds like you will be doing some ks.
Let Yorkie know when you will be in Peth and hopefully a gathering of Perth OzSTOCers can be organised to say hello. I will be away which is why the sidecar is now in Tassie.

Lunch booking confirmed for Saturday 16th at the Sheffield Hotel.

I’ll be with Cerebral knievel, but may or may not be on the same Spirit as he, hope passage will be available on our return from the Wild, Wild West!

The owner of my favourite brewery told me yesterday about a magical
disneylandish/charlie and the chocco factory utopia in Preston.
I'm going to try and visit it the day before sailing Mr Butters ....
equipped with a bar that has 72 taps, a beer garden, a hidden tiki bar, a lagoon and waterfall, and a food menu that will satisfy all group sizes and dietary requirements

What a coincidence, my daughter mentioned on Saturday that she and son-in-law visited Moondog on Friday night (opening of the new Preston venue), and thought it may be worth a visit.
Let's see if we can get the stars to align, but do I have to read back through posts to see when you are in Melbourne and sailing to Tassie? In other words, when are you in Melbourne?

F.Y.I.
Camp Banksia allows BYO Grog. They don't sell any grog, so pre arrange what you want/need. You can also BYOG with dinner and lunches in the mess hall too.
:beer
Cheers, Diesel

In that case I think there'll be Guinness. :beer

I'll bring as much fermented grape juice that the panniers will allow ............ (unfortuantely, the amber fluid needs to be very cold for me to imbibe, and I shall not have said facilities) Could there be import taxes or prohibitions imposed by our magical red and white floating conveyance? :think1

Bring as much red and white from the Mudgee region as you can fit in the panniers, leave with me in St Helena (a 30 minute ride to the ferry), as it might be confiscated by Customs, pick it up as you head back north.
Well I like the plan.

I fear Williamson will impose a very hefty consumptions tax of said booty! ;-*

I haven't seen a mention anywhere that I can recall-
Will there be a buy/swap table at the Rally? I've got something I could bring...

I got a beach cabin. :whistle
I assume that is the one at Camp Banksia :'(
Yes
Initially the beach cabin wasn't my first choice but took it as the en-suite cabins were already take but in hindsight it turned out to be a better option. Having my own kitchen was a big plus. I booked it that long ago I don't recall what the different in price was.
On the en-suite cabins been fully booked, I am convinced that cabin 3 stayed empty for my entire stay. PC's cabin has had one occupant in it for the last three days and the hall was used for a function on saturday night but for the most part the park has been a ghost town. That said, it's been a great base for me to ride around the north of the island.
Today I pack up my bags and load the bike for the first time in two weeks and bid Camp Banksia goodbye. I thank them for their hospitality. Actually I have been content with all my accommodation in Tasmania.
