Greetings from a mild and windy Cape Town, as we fast approach 2021!
I've been riding since '80, legally since '84. ;-* I stopped riding in '94 - a few years after selling my GL1100 Gold Wing Interstate - resuming in 2014. I must confess, getting back out into the traffic after 20 years was worse than learning to ride at 16. While not an ST1300 rider yet, I have been looking around for the right one, but they're becoming somewhat difficult to find as the years go by. By now I'm probably more of a fair weather weekend rider, the ST would be my toy when I'm not hiking our out on our water bicycles.
Hopefully my mechanical background and past biking experience will allow me to contribute until I finally swing a leg over. :thumbs

Thanks for all the warm welcome messages. I've found my ST1300: 2009, 47,900kms, one owner, FSH, ruby red. I couldn't pass this one over, now I must just collect it. I must confess, I'm a little apprehensive considering the horror stories one hears about top-heaviness (I noticed in the showroom as well).

As a big bike rider, you would know that once she's rolling, the weight disappears. Don't be too concerned, as they handle beautifully.

Hi Ralf, Welcome indeed. Hope you find yourself a bike quickly. Living in one of the nicest geographic locations on earth must be so difficult. As a visitor I have really great memories of of a trip that kicked off from Jo'burg across to Durban and then down the coast all the way round to Cape Town and then up the middle back to Jo'burg. Later I took my wife and kids to South Africa just to enjoy and see with their own eyes what I fell in love with. If only it were safer I would have managed to convince the family to move to Cape Town.. I had a job lined up and was so close to packing up but the safety issue was too much for the my family.
Pieter.

Pieter, tourists always tend to have the best experience, they're only in a country for a short time. Cape Town unfortunately has the south-easter in summer, sometimes blowing gale force for weeks.

Welcome Ralf. I'm pleased you found you new love, a Ruby ST1300! I'm a bit surprised there are a few around in SA, as I don't envisage there being a very large number of bigger touring bikes over there.

Having worked with a couple of petrol head Sud Africans, I'm not surprised.
