Hello Everyone,

You would be most welcome.

I was thinking of making a very slight detour to go via Grantham then to Gatton. I want to see how the rebuilding is going since the floods decimated Grantham and left the cafe in a porta-cabin. The very pleasant ladies there said that they were hoping to have the new cafe built a little while after we all trolled up there the last time, some months ago, so I'm interested in seeing what progress has been made, if any. And of course they can always do with the patronage of people like us.

Hi Whizz,
Just to make your loop a little more interesting, how about we head home via Kilarney, Queen Mary Falls and Boonah instead of heading straight down the range through Cunninghams Gap ?

We'll have plenty of time up our sleeve on the day  :thumb

Barry, I think you are going round the loop the wrong way. The intention is to slide in behind Diesel and his entourage as they go past Yamanto, then down the Cunningham Hwy to Warwick for food. Then when they head south, for us to head back north, turn left towards Towoomba then turn right towards Gatton (Grantham), then back towards Ipswich via Laidley and Rosewood.

Your right! I was going around the loop in reverse  :-[

Stormy, Looks like the best bet would be for you to go straight across from Beaudesert  through Boonah to the Cunningham, then meet up with Diesel and us there. Whadaya think? Either that or meet up at Yamanto, but that's a bit out of your way I think. There are others joining up at various places, Tipsy for one who lives in Victoria Point, so, Gents, anyone any other suggestions for Stormy?

If the part arrives in time, I'll be there.

Gents, I may have to bow out of Saturday's festivities, I have stuffed my back lifting and carrying a bunch on Besser blocks over the weekend and I'm having trouble walking let alone riding for any distance. So unless it gets better very quickly I'll be remaining in bed with a good book. Sorry, I was looking forward to it too!!

Wizz, as a back pain sufferer myself, if the chemist says it's try voltaren tablets, the little buggers work a treat.
Hope the pain eases soon.

That's no good Whizz. I hope your back comes good for you in time to still come along.

Stomycove if all goes to plan I should be in Beaudesert between 7am and 7:15. I'll meet you at the Beaudesert - Boonah Rd and Beaudesert - Rathdowny Rd intersection. From there it should be an easy ride to Boonah and the Cunningham Hwy in plenty of time to hook up with the rest of the group.

The only thing that will stop me is if it's raining  :eek

Well the ride down to Warwick was good, even if I did manage to lay the MonSTer down in the forecourt of the gas station at Yamanto. Many thanks to Shiney for picking the thing up for me, I couldn't do it myself with my crook back.

Breakfast was good, if a bit slow and disorganized and I think we frightened the locals with the number of bikes that showed up, 15 ST's and 3 or 4 ring-ins!

The ride up to Grantham was good with some really fine twisties on the back road from the New England Hwy to Grantham (Clifton-Gatton Road). They still haven't got the rebuilding started yet, but are hoping to commence in the next few weeks and do it all at the same time, so the girls in the porta-shop tell me.

Came back via the highway as my back was starting get really stiff and sore, but a great day out and a fine ride. Hope all the guys got the Inverell OK without too much intervention for the GIANT load that rolled past us at Caltex.

Hey Whizz. Hope you didn't exacerbate your back injury too much. They are a big brute when they get too far off centre.
I really wanted to do the Clifton-Gatton Road on our journey out there last time but thought it may have made the day too long.
Wish I could have accompanied you today. Next time.
Hope you have a speedy recovery.
Cheers.
Skip.

Hi guys, thanks for the comments,

Sabie, no damage other than wounded pride, it's a bitch having to beg help to lift your own bike up when you're dumb enough to drop it! :cuss

Brian, all those FF points!!!

Skip, the Clifton-Gatton road is a BLAST, you MUST do it as soon as possible. If you look on Google maps it shows some wobbles in the road which don't look too bad...until you see them close up. The road is very narrow, going down to single lane in quite a few places as it crosses and recrosses the Heifer Creek, lots of little one-lane bridges, lots of up and down and side to side...FUN!! Can we go again??? I would be worth an RTE just for that!! Maybe we should organise one to do that road, then stop off at the pub in Walloon for lunch and a beer...or two. Wadya think? :eat

Finally whoever it was recommended the Voltaren capsules, my undying thanks, they are GREAT!! :-++ :-++

Ditto Sabie.
Throw a plan out there Whizz and lets do it. I hope to get a leave pass for the next RTE. Couldn't do "The Dug" or Inverell so my number must be due to come up. It's not really like that but we just have very busy lives at the moment. But you know what they say about all work and no play.....

I'm off on vacation in less that two weeks, Bangkok then Paro (in Bhutan) for my wife's 50th, then back to Bangkok, then home over a couple of weeks. Once I get back I'll cobble a plan together and see what sort of reaction we get.

Really looking forward to seeing the only country in the world that measures its progress by its GNH (Gross National Happiness) rather than its GNP (Gross National Product)!  :grin

Glad the capsules worked a treat for you Wizz.
And I too dropped my STead tonight after 823 km from Inverell to Goulburn
A really big thanks to AJ1300 for helping to get it back up.

I’m glad I was there and able to help out Whizz, at least the only damage was a little scuff on the tipover bar cover >:()

I hope your back gets better soon and it’s great to hear that the remainder of your ride was done without incident :thumb

Have a good time o/s. Bhutan sounds like an interesting place that you could easily spend a few months in.

Mate, I'd love to spend a lot of time there but one of their tourism rules is that every visitor must spend not less that US$200 per day if there are three in the party and it goes up with fewer numbers, so a single visitor needs to spend about US$300 a day. The people are very strongly Buddhist and intent on keeping their country quiet and religious, and the spending rules are a way to keep the numbers of visitors down as much as possible.

One place we want to try to get to is the Taktsang Monastery, built in 1692 at an altitude of 10,200 ft (3,120 metres) above sea level. It is a 7 hour trek (3.5 hours each way) from the valley floor to the monastery so I'm not sure if we will be able to make it...but damm, I'm going to try! Picture below;

I'll do a 'trip report' when I get back with pics, if anyone would like me to.

Some friends trekked through Thailand, cambodia etc and had a great time.  I would be very interested in how you find it.  I understand the spending limits, but it would defeat my purpose of living cheaply enough to stay longer!  I hope the limits do keep the country the way they want it, not how businesses and foreigners want it.
